Point and Shoot Digital Camera

I am in the market to replace my old digital camera. I am looking for a point and shoot (i.e. pocket) digital camera that has a great shutter speed shot and is good for low light shots. Any recommendations? Price point trying to stay under $300.

I'm in the same boat as the screen on my old sony cybershot died.

All I know is I want something that's pocketable, but has a decent optical zoom (10x or more ideally) as only having 3x zoom was the one thing I hated about my old camera.

Any recs on that front? Cheaper the better as well as I don't take pictures very often--just when traveling, sporting events etc.

I like the Canon SD series. I have a 5 year old one that still runs strong after being dropped and beat up. Now I'm buying one for my girlfriend for Christmas and giving the old one to my parents or something.
