Pokemon game choosing help!

First off, sorry all for yet another "what game to buy" post. I just can't decide.

I have been wanting to play some Pokemon again, and the sales at circuit city make this a good time to buy one! I played RBY, and some silver, and then quit. I've missed GSC (mostly), RSE, and now DP.

Ok, now let me explain why I'm having trouble choosing. As for game systems in the house, I have two original GBAs and a micro, DSlite, and Wii. The GBAs are primarily used for GC/GBA games like Four Swords and (sometime) Crystal Chronicles. I bought the micro in January because I take public transportation to work, and the DSlite just isn't great for the bus. I love the micro for that, and don't really take the DS everywhere, mostly on trips, etc. I also play it around home a lot.

Emerald
Pros: GBmicro, portability, cheaper, perhaps can get wife hooked (lower cost! could get another gba game, one for her?)
Cons: Will my wife play? No online. Probably going to end up being me by myself again.

D/P
Pros: ONLINE, I can finally get a full pokemon experience!
Cons: More expensive, DS doesn't go as many places with me, only one DS in the house = even if my wife gets into it somehow, we can't play together at all.

It turns into an Online vs. cheap and more portable debate for me. So, thoughts?

PS: Sorry if this post is a bit hurried...my son just woke up, and I gotta run!

I'd say go with Emerald just to be sure you want to get into pokemon again after being out for so long.

Worst case scenario, you wasted $15, but you'd still be able to recoup it from trading on here or other sites. For $15, emerald is a STEAL, plus if you do end up diving into the world of pokemon again after you've had your fill of emerald, you can always import your little monsters over to D/P and have even more fun there.

This. You can always get D/P later, as its a fairly new game, but Emerald may be bought by some other dude. Get Emerald. If you like it, get D/P

Are there any new features to D/P other than online? Actually, I should ask: "Are there any appreciable new features to D/P other than online?" Also, I don't know if I was clear...if I get a GBA version, there's almost no chance I will be able to play or trade with anyone. There's a snowballs chance in hell that my wife will become interested. My other friends aren't gamers too much.

Do you not think I could get $25 back out of a used D/P? It is on sale this week too.

Edit:
$20 for D/P at Radio Shack. It's cheap enough.
Can you give me some more info on this??? D/P is $20 at Radioshack? Is this widespread?

D/P at Radioshack is widespread. There was a thread on here about it:

Their website is pretty good too... Do a search for Pokemon, and it'll show D/P for $20. It will also show you if different stores in your area have it in stock. I just got Diamond that way a few days ago.

As for what's different in D/P? Haha, it depends on what you consider to be "new." There's a LOT more new guys. The special attack and attack stats got played around with...

Thanks. It's in stock across town, which probably isn't worth the drive, what with gas and all. I'm going to try to get a pricematch at CC. I will try that, and if not, then decide what to do then. I've also considered getting a FireRed/LeafGreen used off Goozex or something.

As for "what's new" I mean features. I will be unfamiliar with almost all pokemon, since I didn't finish Silver.

Personally it seems like getting the new version would be the way to go, although it's too bad you can't take the DS with you on the bus. Are you sure? An RPG would be a great way to kill time.

Well, the bus ride isn't that long. And it's silly, but I feel a bit self conscious with the DS, but not with the micro. Also, it's just a fitting in my pocket easily issure.

I ended up with Pearl price-matched to the radioshack clearance price of $20. I was tempted to get emerald too, but I am on a budget. I have a big backlog anyway. They had a TON of emerald there. If they go on clearance, I'm running over there really really fast. :)

Thank you all for your input. Now I just need to get through the awful early game where there are nothing but Bidoof. ;)
