Portal 2 40% Trade Bonus GS

GamerTears

CAGiversary!
I reserved Portal 2 at GameStop with a Power Up Pro Rewards card and got $5 off the final game price. Also, I got a coupon for 40% on trade-ins for reserving Portal 2. Those of you waiting for 50% bonus might consider reserving Portal 2 with a Pro Card to take advantage of this.

You'll also get some in-game skins for your characters. Not that it really matters...

What I think the op is getting at is that u can put $5 down towards it to get the coupon and if u got games to trade in cancel the pre order for something you want which I might consider doing and others too since there are better deals out there for it.

Thanks op

What form was the trade-in coupon in? Printed on the register receipt, making it most likely company wide, or just a regular ol' coupon they handed you, making this potentially ymmv if your store didn't get any or has uninformed employees?

I was just offered the Portal 2 pre-order yesterday, and they never mentioned it.

I'm waiting for the coupon in my mail... I might just pick up another copy at GS, if prior indication is a good sign, selling the DLC will make it worth it.

If it's a generic coupon code, you mind posting a screen?

This game reeks of a fast price drop. Common sense. Short game. Lots of hype. Lots of deals to push it for the hype. for whatever reason im betting 20 dollars by christmas.

This is standard operating procedure for people who want to rationalize waiting on a game. All games drop in price. You do realize that Christmas is about 3/4 of a year away.

That said, I am willing to be my used copy that this game will be free by 2020.

I can't wait until Christmas to get this game, I'm playing on day 1!

If you factor in the credit it's $35 with no tax and free shipping. Even if you do hit a sale, it's waiting like 6-7 months for what $15. I would rather spend the extra $15 anyway. Plus I know valve is good with this stuff, but I want to be sure I get the free PC code. Who knows, some day it could not be there.

Ok. its rational. and im going to do it.

It's definitely gonna plummet... maybe less so if there are some good mods that come out relatively quick, but yeah I'm still very hesitant to get it even at $35. Lock in the TIV!

Ummm... did any of you cynics play the first Portal? There was a shit ton of replay value in that game, even at a 2 hour campaign. Portal 2 has two campaigns (single player and co op) that I'm sure will both run at least 4 hours. I have faith in Valve. They take games that may not seem long on the surface (Left 4 Dead), and make them games you play for months on end.

They've said the Portal 2 campaign is 2.5x-3x longer than the original. It took me about 3.5 hours but I know people who took 5-6 or more. I would guess that means 7-10 hours or more depending on how quickly you can solve the puzzles and how much you want to soak everything in.

I also believe this will be cheap by Christmas, but not because of poor quality. I remember The Orange Box dropping somewhat quickly. ME2 was on sale for $10 the November after it came out and that game was fantastic.

How short?

Games have been dropping pretty fast as some have mentioned. ME 2 which was a triple A title, some would say best game of last year, was 20 Dollars standard by Fall, and 10 for Christmas sales. Nothing wrong with the game, and it still dropped. Honestly the only few games I can think of that haven't had really major price drops are CoD games lately, Heavy rain, and GT5. Everything else has dropped at least 20 after a few months.

As for me, I am trying to cut back on spending, and can wait till this summer for this game. If I had amazon credit I may have picked it up just to save, but I really don't. I have such a massive backlog.

It takes a long time for Nintendo games to drop also.

Anyway, I'm sure as heck not waiting until over half a year for this game. I need this at launch. 35 dollars is a great deal.

"Portal 2’s co-op campaign will be twice as long as Portal’s single player, and Portal 2’s single player will be twice as long as that. Do the math: That means that Portal 2’s single player mode will be four times as long as Portal’s."

It definitely took more longer than 2 hours to finish the first game. Hypothetically, it took 3 hours to finish Portal with a reasonable pace. Therefore, according to Valve, Portal 2 co-op will likely take 6 hours to finish and the single-player campaign will last 12 hours. Grand total, 18 hours. In addition, I'm sure Valve will release some "expert" level puzzles apart from the main game just like in the original.

Plus, you can sell the game as soon as you're done. Problem, CAGs?

This is how I figured it, plus I already had 20$ in amazon credit and nothing else I really wanted as well as nothing big on the horizon I was interested in. I figure this game will probably drop to 30$ by the holidays and then probably hold steady at around $20 for the console versions at least. If I buy it right now (not even factoring my current credit) then it would roughly cost me 35$ which is probably what it will be in 6-8 months, so might as well just grab it now for roughly the same price. Plus I've been looking for a co-op game to play with a buddy.
