I was defending PSPs launch titles by comparing it to PS2s and all I could come up with was Madden, NHL, and SSX. Who remembers the rest of the launch lineup?

I had SSX and DOA2Hardcore and I was very happy on launchday.... I got evergrace and Dynasty warriors the next week but I quickly got rid of DW because of it's rediculous refusal to give me health items of any kind. But al three of the others are still in my collection today.

Ridge Racer V, Midnight Club, Smuggler's Run, Tekken Tag Tournament, Ready to Rumble Round 2, and SSX were good to great games that I enjoyed from that launch.

Imo, Smuggler's Run and Midnight Club were the best launch games. Even though they seem a little dated, they are worth picking up, especially since they can be easily found on the cheap.

yeah x squad is easily the best, i mean cmon that game had sucha great replay value, i couldnt put the controller down
Sky Odyssey was a launch game, I think. I still have it today. It's pretty kick ass.
Sky Odyssey came out a bit after the launch...I remember when CC had Sky Odyssey and Orphen on sale for $7.99 one week, couldn't believe they had such cheap PS2 games.

Back on topic, I can't understand why some people dismiss the PS2 launch as weak...It had some great games and one of the strongest launch lineups ever.
was surfing h30 i know its one of the first i got, howabout ico
Ico came out a year after the PS2 launch.

The best launch game IMO was SSX.

SSX, Tekken Tag Tournament, and Midnight Club were some of my favorites that came out at launch. I still think that the PS2's launch was one of the worst and was overall weak. The only ones that I have listed that were really of any strength I think are SSX and TTT.

Wasn't Gran Turismo 3, Resident Evil Code Veronica and Red Faction launch titles? I remember renting Red Faction when I got my PS2 and not having a memory to save my data.

Bouncer was not a launch title, it was supposed to be but Square ran into problems which lead to a loss of functions like scenery as weapons.

Compared to later games in the PS2 life cycle the launch may have sucked but for the time they had some great titles to show off the system with.

Sky Odyssey was about a month after release but damn good for a first gen game.

Lastly for people who consider the PS2 launch weak, exactly what do you consider a STRONG launch??

No. GT3 was supposed to be at the launch in a more primitive form called Gran Turismo 2000, but it was delayed until the next summer.
Wow, I forgot how weak the PS2 launch line up was. Not one major, must have title, like Halo for the Xbox.
Granted they had no Halo but at least they had more than one quality game. Halo is all the Xbox had for much too long

I didn't buy Timesplitters at launch, but it was the first game I bought for my PS2 and I still have it. I think this is my oldest PS2 game that I still own. That and MGS2.
