PS2 Memory Card Question
big difference between the 2. you shouldnt have a problem. just avoid games like everquest which will take like 2mb.
So one memory card would last me awhile?

So far I've only needed one memory card as opposed to 3 on the GC. Then again I mostly play RPGs which tend to take up less space than other games.

You should be able to get about 20-25 different game saves on to it.

Edit: It really weighs a lot on what types of games you play.

unless you plan to play some sports games. Those career/dynasty modes take up ALOT of space. I have one card for madden/ncaa 2005 alone.

I'm currently using four PS2 memory cards. :? It's not that I play sports games, but I just have a ton of PS2 games (100+). But yeah, one PS2 memory card should suffice if you aren't playing sports/wrestling games.

I have 2 third party 16MB expansion cards (with expansion slot for you to accomodate the original 8MB card) for each memory card slot so I have access to 48MB but am still maxing out on saves.

Thank goodness for the HDD...

TRU has been blowing out the 8 MB version of this for $2 recently. I picked up five of them just to know I'd be covered forever after at a tiny cost.

If you decide to not play sports games on it (i.e. Madden, 2k series, etc.) then you should be fine; games like NBA Street are an exception to sports games taking up space since it doesn't take up a lot.

Games like Jak 2 take up a lot of memory also. I believe it takes up 1 mb of space. So be aware of those.

I personally have 4 PS2 memory cards but that is because of how many PS2 games I have. But on one single memory card I've been able to fit about 20-35 games and sometimes 40.

On the GCN, I have filled up one 59 memory card with about 4-5 games and have another 1019 memory card which seems to have no end in site to it which has about 20 games saved to it..

Smackdown! Shut Your Mouth takes up half the card, one of the big knocks against it.

Sounds like I'm heading out to TRU soon.

Does anyone know if 3rd party memory cards work with these? It says it will only work with the official PS2 memory card, but curious if it works with others. I have the yellow Nyko one.

I only have two PS2 memory cards. Got quite a few games though.
Me too.
I win with my 5.5 memory cards.

Maybe if I opened half the games I buy, I would fill up more cards! :D

Same here and since I just recently got the HDD I'm all set.

I got a Sakura Wars LE memory card made by Hori and it works without any problems when I transfer files to and from it via the 16MB expansion card. It's probably YMMV, though.
If you play Grand Theft Auto games, it takes about 1.8MB each game.
What are you talking about? Each of the PS2 games takes up about 400-500 KB each, nowhere near 1.8 MB.

I checked it because my memory card was almost full. Believe, it is 1.8MB, actually it is about 1,88xKB when reading from the browser. For those that have either Grand Theft Auto games, check and see.

It could have been that I used up all the slots within the game and cause it to grow so big. :?

I did check, and they say between 400-500 KB each. I don't know why you're getting 1.8 MB, but that's not how much space they should be taking up.

Did you use all the slots, within the game? All I know is I did. :? I am not sure why either. I checked GameFAQs and some of the save games they uploaded ranging from 100KB to 1.8MB. Hey, if someone can figure out why mine takes up that much space, it would help, because my memory is full.

No, I just use the one slot since I don't need anymore. I guess using the others would make the filesizes larger, but the 400-500 KB is probably what each individual slot takes up, so using more could take up that amount of space.

That might be it. Also, I think the progress you are in and the things you get, say weapons or cars, takes up some space too, that is why there are people with about 100 to 200KB of saves on GameFAQs and some, like me, have save game of 1.8MB.

Anyway, to kind of put the post back to its original direction, I guess if you play Grand Theft Auto games, your save game would be ranging from 100KB to 1.8MB, depends on the number of slots you use and your status. Or just mainly the number of slots you use, not sure if status will takes up space.
