Couldn't find anything mentioned about this...

Effective Sunday September 28th, Sony is dropping the price on their 40gb PS3's by $50. Any stores that carry the 40gb in a bundle should also be dropping the price of the bundle by $50. Got the info from a corporate memo where I work.
Really? That's cool. If this could be used inconjunction with the PS2 $100 trade-in then you could maybe get a new 40 for $250!
However, the thing is I have yet to see a 40GB anywhere in months. Not a single retailer in my area has one and when I was all over the Chicago area, only Sony Style has them. I only see the 80GB in stores. It's no longer listed on many online sites also.

I know Wal-Mart already dropped the price to $350 if they had them because that's what the price sticker at my store said a while ago (although they never had them in for a very long time).

I've seen them in abundance at both Circuit City and Blockbuster Video.

GameStop for an example, back when they still had a locater check for the 40GB, only like 2 locations within a large radius even had them. My Circuit City is strictly 80GB.

However, I can still find an MGS4 80GB at select stores.

Nothing shows up in speedy's ads for next week. I'd like to believe this, but it sounds like a fake. You do know that the cagcast contest is over right?
Hmm, Interesting. If this is true I can see this upping Sony's holiday sales a lot.
Maybe, if the 40GB were still in production and readily available.

A $50 price drop on a discontinued SKU that probably no one carries or even has in stock anymore? Now, if it were across the board and MORE than $50, THAT might really spur sales.

The cheapest model 360 is $200, the Wii is $249(right? I haven't even priced it, since I have 0 interest) and the PS3 is still languishing at $400(or $500 for the upcoming 160 gb Uncharted bundle).

Yeah. I predict Sony is going to sell trillions of these @ $350, IF anyone can find them.

/sarcasm

On a serious note, Sony needs to drop their fuckin' price already. It's been two years since they entered into this gen and they've only dropped numerous SKU's and $100 from the price of the most expensive bundle they have, while releasing newer and newer SKU's to further confuse the shit out of consumers.

Mind you, I have a PS3, but it was a challenge getting me to let go of the $320 or so I spent on it. Why $320? I used up my FYE credit I amassed during their 45% extra credit deal to knock off $80.

I just checked some sites in Canada for the 40 GB PS3: Best Buy - 2 online; Future Shop no longer lists this item; Amazon.ca has zero available - some on its Market Store. This is definitely a discontinued item being cleared out - not a price drop.
