So, I'm trying to hook up my 20GB launch PS3 (no wifi) to get online via my laptop and a cross-over cable but it won't work for anything. Has anyone had success doing this? I have:

-Windows Vista (ugh)
-Wireless connection has been marked as sharing internet (allowing other users to get online via this connection)
-a cross-over ethernet cable

Nothing I do seems to get it to work. I tried just letting auto-settings do it, no dice. I assigned a static IP to my laptop through my router, didn't matter. Manually set all the IP settings on the PS3 from the router, nothing. I know it's possible, but so far nothing I do works. Help! :bomb:

Also, I don't have access to the router directly. I'm splitting the internet with my neighbors and the router is in their apartment below mine. So, game bridges, an extra-long ethernet cable, etc none of it is an option... short of upgrading to another PS3 model, I have no other options.

yeah just check your internet connection settings theres an option in there to share internet via the ethernet cord.

Are you using wireless to connect the laptop and trying to get a wired connection to work on the PS3? If you physically have an ethernet cable from your neighbors, just buy a cheap switch, plug and play.
