Hey CAG's,

Just curious about other people's strategies for trying to get a PS3 and/or a Wii. Sorry if this is a repeat thread, but I'm lazy.

I was thinking of:

1) Going to either Walmart or Target at midnight on Friday morning and seeing what kind of luck I have
2) Then cruising on over to Best Buy to see if the line aint too crazy (I know, I'm fooling myself here, but bear with me).
3) Then maybe trying Blockbuster (I'm on a list there)
4) Then going to Gamestop to see if they can honor my reserve (again, probably SOL there).
5) Try to get something online

Jon

P.S. Is TRU getting allocations greater than their reserves?

that plan is shot. theirs gonna be lines out the wazzu with little to no product available. at this point i think my best bet is online from the comfort of my own home.(except the wii of course, it will sell out the first day though and be replenished in full force after that)

Well BB just called me and said that they will more than likely not be able to honor anybody on their reserve list. The guy did say that they might have 1 or 2, but probably not until the new year.

Personally I think this is a corporate decision to protect their employees from the mad scramble. Either that or employees hoarding them for themselves.

I was just planning on going into work Friday 7-3. Checking the Kmart or something for a PS3 over lunch. Then coming home and playing 360 and eating dinner. And listing the PS3 on Ebay. No big deal. Less stress that way. Sunday I do not work, so I will head out to Kmart at the opening.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I'll go to work on Thursday, as per usual. Then I'll swing by the Best Buy that's doing a midnight launch to see how many are in line. If it's horrendous, then I'll swing by a couple of other places (Target, Walmart, Circuit City) and see what the lines there look like. If they all look bad, then I'll go home and wait a year or 2. If I think I have a chance at one, then I'll hop in line and have my wife bring me a chair, some books, and a sleeping bag/blanket.

I thought I read somewhere else that only certain Best Buys would be doing midnight launches, or is this like a corporate thing? Will Target also be doing a midnight launch too, then? I figured Walmart would since they're open 24/7.

I've been hearing rumors of a lottery system at Wal Mart. Can anybody confirm? In other words, "camping" will be pointless - you get there at 11:30, get a "lottery ticket", and they start drawing out of a hat at midnight.

Well I can't confirm that rumor, chosen1s, but I do like the idea of a lottery. It gives everybody an equal opportunity to get their new-system-game on, not just the camping out hermits spending their government disability checks.

I'm going to the BX that is close to me, and picking up my Wii tax free. I'm not taking any chances though, I'll get there at leaast 3 hours early.

my plan for the PS3=wait until January or until they are everywhere. Just not worth the effort of running all over the city and waiting online for 24+ hours in hopes that I "might" get one.

For the Wii, I might try to go to TRU on Sunday morning. Doubtful though. That's sleeping/football day.

So which retailers will be getting PS3s? I'll definitely be checking the main ones: Best Buy, Circuit City, Frys (although I hear they are requiring bundles), Wal Mart.

Any others that I am forgetting? I think I may have a better chance at the smaller ones.

my plan involves a 9mm, ski mask, and a walmart at midnight. you guessed it, im gonna bodyguard all the good patrons back to their cars at such a late hour.

How kind of you! However, it must take immeasurable amounts of restraint to keep yourself from robbing those lucky, unshowered gaming enthusiasts.

So how far in advance are people gonna start lining up / camping out for th ps3? I would prefer a lottery system as well but wouldn't mind a halfway reasonable camp out period.

Well, I scoped out my area today. People were camped outside of 2 BBs and 1 CC. Wal-mart didn't have anyone (then again, I didn't check inside), neither did Sam's club. The Target in my area isn't allowing camp outs until thursday, which may give me a chance.

Wow. Yeah the people in the DFW area are hardcore as I found out during the TRU preorders... especially in the nicer areas...

yep. I remember seeing people friday night for the TRU pre-orders. The target in frisco, near stonebriar, is the one that won't let people camp until thursday. That might be the one I go to. At least there, I have a chance.

You'll probably have to go wednesday at midnight to get in on that...lol... stupid Sony...
yea, that's what I am thinking too. I have work until noon, so I'm pretty much SOL. What part of Dallas you from?
I'm actually from Fort Worth and currently am in Austin getting my education on so me and a friend are trying to figure out our best bets here, but with all the college kids it's probably gonna be a no go unless we camp out days in advance.

Yea, I would think so too. The majority of campers were college students over here. I would skip classes, but I also have work in the mornings, which I can't skip.

If the lines at the local BB or CC isn't too bad tommorow at midnight we might stay, I'll miss class and work but wont' get fired so it won't be a biggie... I just hope the release numbers aren't cut down even more...

And on the same note... if people know how many systems a certain store will have, why do they continue to camp? I figure a line should top out at maybe anywhere between 5-10 over supply, but lines get super long... if you're #30 or above why bother wasting your time?

all the walmarts here say that they're only getting 10 ps3's each. and there are already people in line =(. i can't get over there until after 2 p.m. tommorrow. I really hope they get more than just 10 or else I'm out of luck I think.

So do people think it'd be better to sit at home and try to order from one of the big sites, BB, CC, amazon, etc when they come out or would camping out work?

I preordered my Wii at FYE on August 10th, 2006. I just ebayed it about a week ago for $450. And now in some thread apparently FYE is getting launch systems but they are forcing a bundle upon us. I'm calling my FYE tomorrow to make sure my system will be available on the 19th, I was 2nd on line so I should be good.
