Anyone have one? What are your thoughts? I'm really thinking about getting one. I grew up playing FPS on the PC and now I just can't get the hang of using the controller... I feel handicapped in every FPS or shooter game.

Also, if anyone has one they'd like to sell, let me know...

Ive never tried XIM because at the time I was looking it was still close to $100. I have used a FragFX and can say it does help, but it is by no means as trouble free as you are used to, coming from PC. The FragFX takes a good amount of calibration everytime you switch games and due to the mechanics (I can explain these if youd like as I believe the XIM works similarly) you will not get the exact same use as a keyboard and mouse. In sum, I no longer have the FragFX and wouldnt recommend picking one up unless you are absolutely desperate and can find it for cheaper than your normal controller.

I personally came from strictly PC shooting (extensive tours in every battlefield since 1942) and would probably advise that you just learn to accept the control scheme. It takes some adjustment and online is tough until you clock about 20 hours behind a control pad. All I can say is that it seems hopeless until it finally clicks and while its never as good as keyboard and mouse, its worth learning. You may also want to give the UT game for PS3 a try because it does allow you to play using Mouse and Keyboard.

If youre looking for a second opinion, I can look back thorugh my trading history because I ended up selling the FragFX to a CAG.

I bought a FragFX as well, and sold it because it was without a doubt, a big piece of junk. That said, talking to owners of the XIM on their community site, they say the XIM is far and away better than the FragFX which was why I was wanting opinions outside of their community...

I don't have time to 'play more'. When I play, I want to play, I have a 9 mo daughter, which allows me to play maybe 5 - 6 hours a week after she goes to bed. I don't want to learn to ride a unicycle to go somewhere when I already know how to ride a bike. ;)

That's the thing... It was the same sort of feeling when i first started playing FPS games. Mouse and button, easy to shoot, controllers? Nah, it's like riding a unicycle :(

Well, in my case, it turned out it's easier to ride the unicycle than the bike (ahem, i don't know how to ride a bike by the way).

As for new kids in the family, well, that's what happens when you have kids
I wish i can give you feedback, but i don't even what that thing is. All i know is that, i used to ask the very same question with the FragFx thing.

Well if you using something similar to mouse/keyboard on Console would that give you more advantage than the regular console players? Why don't you just stick to playing FPS on PC?

I guess people switch from PC to console maybe they want trophies/achievements

j/k... to me, it's a pain in the butt to turn on the computer and then turn it off. It's a lot easier with TV and console. Also, computers remind me of work.

I have a media center PC that's right next to my TV and always on... and how is it unfair advantage? I'm used to playing with kb/mouse, others are used to the controller...

You'll be able to aim smoother with a mouse that's for sure. I used to be hardcore CS and CSS player so I know the differences. But if you "used" to using kb/mouse then why not play on PC and not worry about getting use to new methods of playing. If worse just buy XIM (even though I have never heard about it before) and try it out. There's probably a return period right?

I switched to console because maintaining a gaming PC is too expensive and consoles get a lot of exclusives that either dont make it to PC or take awhile to get there.

I personally think XIMs are too expensive. 5 to 6 hours a week is actually not bad, its probably more than I get to play. So maybe it would be better to ease into it. Try a third person shooter instead of a first person one. 3rd person shooters arent as big a jump when you go from M+K to a controller. Perhaps give Uncharted or Dead Space a try. Once you get comfortable with that it should make the jump into 1st person shooters easier. Once you get into FPS, maybe stay away from the faster shooters. I personally thought Killzone 2 had a great feel with the controller and its a bit slower than say the MW series, but perhaps others can make some suggestions.

I see where you are coming from with your analogy, but once you learn to ride a unicycle, its a lot like riding a bicycle in that you never really forget. If you learn now, you wont have to buy another XIM when the next gen of systems rolls around. In a sense you may just be delaying the inevitable and spending a lot of money doing it.
