Was so looking forward to watching Arrival after missing it in theaters since I love sci-fi especially sci-fi with deep, meaningful endings but I went in feeling tired, must have passed out in various parts of the movie because it's so sloooow and had to rewatch those parts. Then came the ending which I felt came way too abruptly that not everyone could fully comprehend it. I must admit I could be getting dense in my old age but not all of it registered with me thus their marketing of the movie as being a film you have to see multiple times to really get the ending. For those of you who figured out the ending even early on in the film, congratulations to you. For those of us, who sat there scratching their heads and asking what the heck just happened as the closing credits rolled, which include myself, I didn't leave thinking this is one of the best sci-fi films I've ever seen. When I went online to have the ending explained to me, it wasn't a gotcha moment like sixth sense which absolutely worked and made you feel something. Here, it was anticlimactic. It was an "Oh! Is that what happened?" moment especially as it pertained to the Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner characters. As for why the aliens were here, I get that part but once again it was anticlimactic in the way they finished it and I was looking for so much more, be shown so much more but it ended so abruptly after so much between humans and aliens was so slowly and painstakingly drawn out. I'm probably in the minority but I had such high expectations going in from all the great things I heard about the film but it just didn't click with me and I'm a huge sci-fi fan or so I thought but maybe not huge enough.
Still, 50 cents is not much to ask for for anyone to watch this to make up their own mind whether they like it or not.
