psp 2000 or 3000

Jqwerty

CAGiversary!
which do you prefer? i heard about the aliasing issues on the 3000, but none of amazon's reviews mention it. is the 3000 worth getting over the 2000 (at the same price)?

I have both and I would highly recommend the 3000 over the 2000 unless you are getting a huge discount on the 2000 or something. The screen is beautiful and the well-known issues with the 3000 are greatly exaggerated. It looks bad freeze framed or in a crappy youtube video, but when you see it in person you'll see that it's pretty much a non issue. By the way I have both Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness, Loco Roco, Patapon, and some other games with 2D graphics. On 3D games such as FF: Dissidia for instance, the 3000 just kills the 2000.

thanks so much. i was planning on going with the 3000 in spite of the issues, but im happy to hear that the issues are negligible. wipeout pulse, here i come!

my choice is 3000 bought it not long time ago enjoing it...don't do any fancy-pretty games just normal old classic J-rpg's )

I hear the PSP-3000 is not hackable so if you plan on running homebrew your best choice with be the older versions. Personal I have Silver PSP-2000 and lovin' it.

Don't ask about hacking it here. That is not allowed on the boards. Just google it.

If you are going to hack it, you will need a bigger stick. If you think you'll be downloading a lot of demos, you'll need a bigger stick. I have a 4 gig stick, and I mainly keep demos and game images I've ripped from my UMDs. I really haven't put much media on it since I have a good MP3 player and I haven't been able to get it to play my videos.

I don't know any good deals on memory sticks right now. One thing I heard about was getting MicroSD to Pro Duo adapters. I wonder how well that would work out since the microSD cards would probably be cheaper than pro duo's.

Honestly? If I had to buy a PSP today I would go for the 2000. I had one before and a PSP with custom firmware (I ripped all my PSX games to it) was fucking amazing. Easily the best handheld device I've ever owned.

However, there's so much grumbling about a PSP-4000 model that I would wait for an announcement. I was thinking about picking up another 2000 now that I have a commute again but I'm going to wait until the summer conventions are all over and see if we get some sort of announcement. In the meantime keep scouring the deals forum and start picking up games on the cheap whenever you can.

picked up an 8gb card for $29 or so at bestbuy, price matched microcenter.... will probably have it hacked to get more games on it and possibly movies.

Just get the 3000 if you can't wait for the 4000. Much of the newer 2000's have a motherboard that may not be hackable.

The screen issues with the 3000 aren't anything to be worried about unless you like playing with the screen an inch from your eyes where you can notice the issue. BUT even then, I wouldn't worry about the screen, I would worry about yourself.

This. Unless you can find an older 2000, you're screwed. I know all the clearanced 2000s from CC are T88v3 MLBs that can't be hacked. I thought I'd grab one cheap and used my PSP 1000 battery for some extended SNES action, but that bird didn't fly very far.

If your 2000 shiped with FW4.01 or 4.50 you're SOL. No 3000 is hackable.

I bought a new 3000 and 2000 and tried a bunch of games on both side-by-side.

PSP3000:
It had noticeable interlacing in most situations.
The colors were more saturated, but dark colors were too dark, and whites seemed tinted.
I tried 2 different 3000s and both had backlight bleeding and some spots on the screen were lighter than others.

PSP2000:
No interlacing effects, but there is noticeable ghosting in very fast movement, especially when it was something black moving.
The backlight was perfect and even.
Picture is bright, and whites look white.

Comparing the picture between the two, it's kinda like the 3000 had its brightness turned down, and the color turned up, in TV terms.
When I turned OFF the enhanced color on the 3000 and put them next to each other, the 2000 looked better.

It was a hard choice, but I ended up keeping the PSP 2000.

They both look good, but have small issues, so really it comes down to personal preference.

There is a mircoSDHC adapter called photofast cr5400 that uses two mircoSDHC cards and coverts them to one pro duo card. Its a lot cheaper than buying a pro duo card. I'm using two 8gb microSDHC cards in the one I own. Total price for 2 cards and the adapter was around $40 or $45 dollars. A 16gb produo card cost around $80.
