PSP Discontinued?

CAGiversary!
I went to the pawn shop today and found Metal Gear: Portable Ops and Socom for PSP for $5 each. I bought neither, but that's besides the point. Considering how these are fairly good deals, I asked how frequently they receive additional PSP inventory. The pawn shop clerk replied they did not see much for PSP since the system has been discontinued.

Is it true?

certain models have been, but even sony has said that the psp wont be discontinued until a couple of years after the ngp comes out
You heard it from a pawn shop employee. What do you think?
Pawn shop employees are usually dumbasses, so my source was not very reliable. I do, however, consider Cheap Ass Gamer to be a more reliable source. I asked the guy if he was sure about the PSP's discontinuation as I was in doubt.

I don't mean to offend any pawn shop employees who may be reading this thread, but it is a fair statement in that 51% of pawn shop employees are dumbasses. There are exceptions, of course, but more often than not, they don't have the slightest clue about their own merchandise.

Why would people at a pawn store be knowledgeable about their merchandise? They buy random stuff from people. It is unrealistic for anyone to expect them to know more than a price for items.

Far from it. PSP may not be the most popular portable, but its still making money and has its fan base.

By not the most popular portable you mean the most successful and profitable non nintendo portable system?

I think that would be the iPhone and the bajillion .99 games.
Iphone is not a gaming system, its a phone. That's like saying the PSP is a MP3 player because it can play MP3's.
They said portable system not portable gaming system. so, he is right.

The iphone is a portable gaming machine. That is an indisputable fact. It is not just a phone. It holds a pretty considerable portion of the portable gaming market in the US.

To say that an iPhone to gaming is comparable to a PSP to playing Mp3s is such a grossly misinformed statement. It is not a tradition portable system, however, the iOS app store has tons and tons of games, and is incredible successful.

Edit: Just Found some Stats here: http://www.appspy.com/iphone-pushes-out-psp-software-sales-09-news

In 2009 the iphone held 19% of the portable game market compared to the PSP's 11%. I am positive that number has only increased since then. I am not stating that the PSP is unsuccessful, however, the DS really ran away with the portable gaming market. Then, the iphone came with cheap .99 games completely changing people's perception of portable gaming.

Nope the iPhone isn't considered a portable gaming device it is considered a smartphone first and foremost just like the string of blackberries that came before it and the androids that are coming after it.

Then that would make it a smartphone with the second highest share of the portable gaming market?

...unless you are on the TV show Pawn Stars. Then you know almost everything. And are fat.

Yup but you would also have to factor in the iPod touch as well which, I would considered a gaming device, for the simple fact being a phone less iPhone, has no true rival like all the smartphone competition the iPhone has.
