OK, so I bought a PSP yesterday and it has the 1.52 firmware. Im not real interested in stealing games and what not but I dont want to disable the ability to do so. When I tried to play a game it said I needed to update the firmware. So my question is... If I do update the firmware can i change it back? Im not even sure if thats the question I should be asking all this crap just confuses the hell out of me. Ive looked around on pspupdates.com and I cant really seem to find what im wanting to know. So any sort of advice would be greatly appreciated, any PSP advice. I cant sit here and not play it forever. :bomb:

I think once you update your system, the PSP remains on that specific version of firmware until another update. When I play an older game on the system, I've highlighted the older firmware option under the UMD game icon; O then select that icon. However, the PSP says that the system has already been upgraded. So it seems that you can't return to the older firmware.

You can roll back the firmware but not from the most recent versions.

If you really aren't concerned with running emulators and homebrew stuff, you might better off selling that unit to someone with that interest and just getting a new one.

yep no new games on old firmwear it forces you to upgrade. I mostly believe in an attempt to prevent pirating/homebrew but the later versions also have a web browser for instance (not a great one, but hellw hat do you expect when you have an onscrean keyboard).

1.5 is the only old firmware that allows you to play all games (yes im talking about actual UMDs). Your best bet would be to upgrade to 2.0 and then downgrade to 1.5 using MPH's downgrader (google).

werd, then download devhook .44 (it can emulate 2.71, the latest firmware) then ur psp can do EVERYTHING from emu's to playing the latest games:applause:

Well, call me stupid but i went ahead and did the 2.71 upgrade. being that im against pirating games, i dont think ill regret it. are there any upsides to keeping an older firmware other than pirating?

There are more reasons to use ISO loaders than the obvious piracy reason. Playing ISOs off a memory stick isn't illegal if you have the game, and running an iso off the memory stick decreases loading times(one of the biggest complaints most people have about PSP games). Other than that there is also emulators for SNES,NES, etc. that are great for having your favorite classics in a portable version. Of course having an updated firmware is cool too if you dont care about any of these things, and it sounds to me like you will be perfectly happy with a 2.71 psp
