It would make too much sense for Sony to actually do it.
But I imagine there's no reason they couldn't. Rather than building the emulator into the firmware, like they did with the PS1, they can simply distribute eboots with the rom+emulator combined.
But as I said, Sony will never do that. Even though their PS1 emulator works on probably 100s of games, how many does the store offer? I think 15? And I think 1 3rd party game.
The PSP is an amazing device, but Sony seems to be the wrong company to handle it. I don't know if they are too busy with the PS3 and PS2 or what. But obvious things, like downloadable music and movies (a la iTunes) aren't done. Nor do we even get things already released in Japan, like the GPS unit or camera.
omg I forgot that the PSP has a GPS unit... but sony never released the damn thing in the US... shame.. I just bought a GPS... would have been nice if I could have just used my PSP. Unfortunately, I have to agree Sony is the wrong company to handle the PSP, so much potential and yet their so slow. We just got new colors... then in Japan they only had 77,777 crisis core PSPs, why not 700,000 - damn make some money, you can't win with "special editions" when the DS pokemon edition comes out everyone can get it... no one's going to be left out. Crimson DS, everyone gets one.. who wants it. No limitations.
But the PSn store is a big step in the right direction and even if Sony doesn't do old school gen, snes(3rd party), sms games, there's nothing wrong with some new smiple old school type games. PSn imo is the place where homebrewers should be able to make some money. Homebrewer submits application / games to Sony and Sony and homebrewer split the money, or Sony can pay the homebrewer for the product.
