Public Service Announcement - Clean Your PS3!

Thomas96

CAGiversary!
I remember talking about this a while ago, but this imo is the best way to keep your PS3 clean, its the method I've been using since PS2. I've noted my PS3 fan going pretty loud, so I'm going to clean it and hopefully it'll run better. But I just wanted to remind all CAGs to keep their PS3 clean and keep in a good location. Open area, and definitely not on the carpet! And don't use any fan tests!

take care

thanx for the reminder. I've been past due. I need to out a dated sticker on my ps3 like auto shops do when you get an oil change.

Yeah the manual actually suggests vacuuming the vents with a small vac.

I've only done so once in the year I've had mine. It's getting hot here now though so I will be doing it more because the fans will be going a little harder I imagine.

whenever I vacuum the house, I just include the PS3. I think I'm going to do the same with my xbox... maybe that will extend the life. It still looks brand new, cause I don't use it very much.

ive just been blowing the dust out and it works fine. ill try this other method in the future. wonder if one of those keyboard vaccums would work.
Hm, I have my two week old PS3 sitting on an open area on the carpet in my living room. Why is that recommended against?
Any console on the carpet is a no-no. Carpet retains heat & obstructs airflow, which can lead to an overheated console.

Buy a small Pedestal, w/ no cloth, something metal, or w/ that hard pressed wood; so you can have it off the carpet. I learned about carpets and console, w/ PS1. I used to have my PS3 on a small vase stand.

its better to try and get the dust out instead of blowing it into the system.
Is he going to clean it or make love to the thing? I got dizzy and gave up waiting.
lol I was thinking the same thing
Can I use a thick book?
I think that a thick book w/ a hard cover is better than carpet but I wouldn't use that as a long term solution. you want something that's hard and won't absorb heat

Thick book, a board, piece of glass.

Everything absorbs some heat. The shelf idea is that the heat then can be diffused out the bottom of the shelf, where a book on carpet has no way to dissapate the heat so it just builds back up.

Almost useless. Dusts are already in PS3 if they are on the vents. It will only build up over time and layers and layers of it could kill the chips by overheating them. Oh and homes with smokers will collect more dust and they usually end up inside electronics.

if you ever open up a computer, thats been inside a smokers house you can immediatly tell, the smell is god-awful

THIS. My one ex and her family gave me some parts out of their old computer and they REEKED of smoke. This thread has reminded me that I seriously need to vacuum my PS3's vents.

It's been a while since I did it and the fan has been ramping up higher since the warmer weather finally hit.
