I bought this DS game a couple weeks ago.
At first I thought it was pretty decent, didn't really read any info just started playing. After lvling past lvl 10 I really got into it when I found out I could build my castle and learn new skills, capture badguys for the skills, buy mounts, and all this good stuff. Its a really addicting and fun game.
I seriously have never needed to charge my DS so many times! I sometimes think something is wrong with it because of that, but I think I just play it to much.

Just wondering if anyone else out there has this game and what lvl they are?
I chose to be a Female knight, the girl in the red armor I thought looked the coolest.
I'm lvl 20 right now.
Man some of these capture puzzles are really really hard!
If anyone knows of a walkthrough on these puzzles would be much appreciated :D

I played the HELL out of this game, and beat it a month or two ago. I agree its awesome. There was a HUGE thread about the game here, but I guess it got buried down a few pages.

I've been trying to capture a Wolfrider forever, and can't seem to do it. Closest I've come is two left.

I've shown that puzzle to two other people, and they've spent hours trying it too without luck.

Any hints? I don't want a full spoiler.

Lol! My girlfriend just captured a Wolf for me! heee heee, and a few minutes ago she got the Spider. I already had the giant rat, now she is working on a Harpie.
She's been out it for a while now.
I'm very tempted to look at the cheats, but good thing my gf wont let me.

man I haven't picked up this game in a while. Ever since I got pokemon, that's all that's been in my ds. but on my puzzle quest file, I'm a druid lvl 17.

I went with mage on the DS since I had tried out the other classes on the PC demo. Druid starts with a healing spell which makes things really easy in the beginning, but I don't know how it plays out later since the demo maxes at lvl 7.

I think I'm lvl 26 now. Very fun game. I was trying to save the main quests for a trip I just finished up so I pretty much fought side battles to capture monsters, learned every spell from the ones I captured, trained up a few mounts, plus took every side quest on the way to limping along the main quests. But as it always happens I ended up only playing the DS for an hour or two on both the flight out and return flight back.

Some of the spells (like spit poison) require a ridiculous number of gems and scrolls to clear.

Right now I
just finished fighting the minotaurs to gain acceptance in the fire order or whatever it's called.

It maxes at level 50, right?

Another question (related to the Hide spell.) -
Does the hide spell double damage from spells or just from clearing skulls? It seems like it doesn't double from spells, but I'm not sure.
just skulls
fuckers. I was excited to learn that one figuring it would give me the big hammer, but kind of a dud. Thanks for confirming.

Hint: Most spells that clear out blocks for you won't give you damage bonuses for skulls. I.e. My Warrior with "HOLY fuck" level damage bonus to skull matches would still only get 1 per skull per invocation of Spin Attack.

i didn't have a hard time with your spoiler guy since wizard is so broken. i pretty much killed him with him taking only a few turns at the beginning of the match.

Warrior gets a broken spell called Deathbringer at about level 40. Turns the field into skulls=half your red mana.

With that, practically the ENTIRE FIELD is taken up by skulls. Combine that with the mad Battle skill of any Warrior, and the Big Bad can resist all he wants, but I only need ONE cast of it to go through.

Then I went back and kicked his ass without it.

no, if you got deathbring3r at 40 that'd be fine, but they give it to you at 30

so as long as you're not a total idiot and use your lvl up points to increase anything BUT the 1 points (which happen to be battle and fire) you basically destroy everything.

Ya I love it too, I started as a Druid cause that's what I played in EQ so I thought it might be similar but he seems like a hard class to play, his spells aren't very direct at all. But I'm gonna stick with him.

THinking of buying a second copy for some family VS mode fun :)

Anyone know of any good weapons and armor for a knight? Right now I'm using Mirror Armor and Dugog's Club which are working fine for me, but I've had these for a long time now, so I'm assuming there's gotta be better equipment out there.

I've started playing Puzzle Crack and oh man. I don't recall the last time I was so addicted to a game or lost so much sleep to one, but this is probably one of the most fun games on the system.

Anyone else have epic battles with higher level enemies for fun? I spent the better part of Sunday trying to Siege a city which was 10 or 20 levels higher (my HP was 90 or so, the city had 215) and got it down to 1-10 HP at least 3 times, and it still ended up owning me.

I think the computer cheats. As a rule I never use the move suggestions the game gives, because it seems every time I do, my opponent manages to score damage or get a 4-5 in a row next turn almost directly because of what falls from the move I just did. Lame. I think it adds to the fun, though, because you end up really planning your moves and trying to outsmart it. Or, I or my character just suck :)

if there is only one possible move, i usually just use a spell or mess up purposely, i hate it when i give the cpu an opening and get my butt handed to me >
I've started playing Puzzle Crack...
I've been thinking of this quote for the last couple hours. I just received Puzzle Quest yesterday from a trade on these forums, and it's amazing how addictive the gameplay is. I've been playing for the last three hours, and a few times while driving home, I opened my DS at a stoplight to fiddle. :whistle2:$

I beat it last week. I beat the last boss by pure luck after about 25 tries.

I'd love to play through the game with a Wizard again. Wizards are a blast.

I got it for my girlfriend for her birthday and she's hooked. It should keep her busy until SimCity DS comes out, maybe then I'll be able to try it out myself lol.

You beat it? Any idea how many friggin hours that took?

Puzzle Quest is a good idea and a fun game that needs some work to push it to the next level and make it a really great game. It has the potential but the execution just isn't there IMO. My biggest problems are the AI and the balance issues.

I've heard the AI gets better at higher levels, but is it just a matter of it making the most efficient moves on the board or does it go as far as actually strategizing its use of spells and selecting gems it needs/preventing you from getting what you need. My guess is it's mostly the former. Even if it knows all the best moves to make on the board, the player still always has the upper hand because we are much better at weighing the pros and cons of a particular move and deciding if it fits our strategy. What makes it worse is it seems most classes have a set of spells that can absolutely destroy any enemy if used correctly.

I like the game and will continue to play it, but I just wish it was focused more on skill and strategy than luck. I'm still fairly low leveled but it seems the only times I ever am in danger of losing battles is when the enemy happens to get lucky and nails a huge multiplier of a mana type he needs. Or when it gets lucky and hits some crazy chain that drops 75% of my hp.
You beat it? Any idea how many friggin hours that took?
for me it took at the LEAST 40hrs

Umm, you don't collect them, you use them to make combos. They're good for any type of combination, that's why they're WILD cards. Let me know if that's not clear enough and I'll draw a picture.

I guess I'm having trouble. As far as I can tell, it's illegal to move the wildcard. Do you have to surround it on both sides with matching pieces, or does it have to be stacked next to at least two of a kind?
You beat it? Any idea how many friggin hours that took?
I played it for 6 days straight for about 6-8 hours a day, so around 35-40 hours.

It's not illegal to move a wildcard AFAIK, as long as it makes a 3-of-a-kind match. And you can match it either way you described, or even with another wildcard and any gem, so you have two wildcards and a single color.

The wildcard is basically any gem (except a skull/coin) and will multiply your normal mana gains by whatever multiplier it is.

The other replies basically covered it, but I'll add: the best way I learned about wild cards was watching the computer play, because if there's a wildcard on the board, the bastard's going to use it. It's especially helpful for making combos of 4 or 5.

Once, I even got it to make 2 combos for 2 different mana colors, because there were 2 each and it was the 3rd piece for both sets.

Dammit! This thread has made me want to play right now. Somebody hit me, I'm havin' a PQ fit and I'm gonna get tore up!

Thank you for clearing up wildcards for me. I figured out what I was doing wrong. You can't match wildcards with non-manas -- skulls and experience points.

This game is amazingly done. It took me at least 15 tries to clear the Bat in the Belfry mission, but it was never so frustrating that I didn't mind trying again.

My copy of Contact is still sealed waiting for me to play through my backlog til I reach it. I take it you reccomend it?
My copy of Contact is still sealed waiting for me to play through my backlog til I reach it. I take it you reccomend it?
have you ever played earthbound? its a bit like that
you don't enter any battle screen when you encounter enemies though, it uses a real time battle system along the lines of children of mana, all in all its definitely worth trying out :applause:

Are you only allowed so many tries to capture an enemy? I failed to capture a Skeleton several times, and now the option to capture it is gone... :(

It was in the same spot, but I figured out that it had randomly appeared there again. It wasn't me accepting a quest -- it had simply appeared there on its own. It seems there are some enemies that do that, now that I'm progressing in the game.

All I did to capture the Skeleton is accept the quest again, then I had the option to capture. Since I seem to suck at figuring out the capture puzzles, I used a FAQ on GameFAQs. That site is a tad handy, sometimes.

Edit: I have my first mount! ...a Giant Rat... ew.
