[font=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif][size=-1]"Later this week at New York City's Digital Life convention, UGO and Activision are teaming up to run a Quake 4 tournament. In addition to the Quake 4 goodness, the game's associate producer will be on hand to answer questions from the fans. Head over to the UGO booth to play some Quake 4 and sign up to compete in the tourney to win prizes like Sony PSPs, MP3 players, Quake 4 merchandise and more. The event will take place October 14-16."

I just read the October issue of Play tonight, the one with Condemned on the cover, and they had a great writeup about Quake IV. The one thing I'm most excited about from the article is they took the online portion of the game from the Quake III engine as opposed to the Doom 3 engine.

They had a "professional" gamer commenting on the fact that he thinks Q IV will be the next big "money" game for professionals and LAN tournaments. The one thing I would love to see is this kind of play and competition put into console gaming. I know that Live and the 360 are optimized for this so you can have numerous spectators so it would be possible. I just want to see it happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong but other than those players featured in EGM that "tutor" Halo 2 players is there enough Xbox or XBL tournaments out there to make money and be considered a professional? In no way would I be good enough at FPS's to rank but on something like RTS or hockey games I'd think I could do alright.

so they are using a six year old engine for multiplayer? Thats lame to the 10th degree. The Quake III engine wore out its welcome a hell of a long time ago.

Its going to be using the Doom 3 engine with out the lighting shaders, polygon hit decetion(hit boxes). Its Multiplayer is the quake 3 speed with the quake 1/2/3 weapons . Single player is going be the next chapter in quake 2 world

Ok that makes sense. PAD had me wierded out when he mentioned the Quake III engine being used.

I will probably pick this up, but since I am new to Quake, I think I will wait for a deal or the Lost Marine mod for Doom 3 to come out so I have some background with the series (plus FEAR comes out on the same day and I am a huge monolith fan)
