I just picked up Batman Arkam Asylum on clearance from target for $12.98. I'm trying to decide if I want to keep it. I know it has securom drm. That is a strike against it. It is a games for windows live game. How does that work? Is it something you have to have to play the game or can you ignore it?

Hm... if you have the disk, I believe you have to install GFWL when you install the game, but you might get away with never really having to deal with it. My experience with it is that you have to have it installed, and it's your choice to register the game online and sign into the service.

If you choose not to sign in, you don't get achievements, you don't get your friends list, no multiplayer, but for a single player such as Batman, it should be okay.

I thought the disc version only had that "Glitch" DRM where pirated copies wouldn't let you use certain skills so you can't advance in the game, as described here?

I just I don't want to deal with GFWL. I have steam and that works fine. I really don't know if want to install this since it has securom on it. It looks it's only the disc check, but I just don't want that DRM on my computer.

I just wonder if it is worth playing on the PC? I know it is a good game and I've really been wanting to play it. I just don't know if I want to go to the effort of figuring out how to install it without GFWL and securom.

Your computer isn't going to burst into flames because you install a disc check and gfwl.

GFWL pops up only when you hit home, if you don't want to create a live account, don't. The game plays the same, and the only thing you miss out on with Batman is the DLC and tracking your achievements. SecuROM, if you're that worried about it being on your computer. Uninstall it when you get rid of Batman.

I know those two things aren't that bad, but I don't like them. I can deal with them if I have to. I do wonder how well this game plays with the keyboard vs the controller? I'll likely just keep it since it'll be awhile before it hits $12 on consoles.

If you want to play it by kb. You can. If you want to. Plays smooth.

Edit - I meant to say gamepad but the game work smooth either way.

I'll agree with you that SecuROM is stupid, but there isn't anything wrong with GFWL, especially if you have a 360 to tie the achievements in with. The in-game client for GFWL is great, it's the standalone client that I have issues with. You don't actually need it for anything tho.

honestly i sort of discriminate ageist pc games if it dont have gfwl. being able to add to my GS while playing the PC is nice.

securom is a different matter tho. i'll just get the console version if the game has it. for some reason i get random errors after i install that crap. not doing that anymore hehe.
