Question about LCD Monitors

SOLIDSNAKE

CAGiversary!
I am having a problem involving 2 LCD monitors. The first is a 17 inch Dell that i got for cheap and the other is a very expensive 22 inch wide-screen View Sonic. The thing is that when i watch the Dell and look at it from all different sides and angles, the screen quality stays nearly perfect. However, when i watch the 22 inch View Sonic and change my viewing angle or perspective, the visual quality greatly changes and distorts. Why is this happening? Does it have something to do with the specifications involving viewing angles? And if so, whats better, higher viewing angle or lower viewing angle specifications? -Thank You

Higher viewing angle is better. The type of LCD you have is a TN monitor and that's the type with limited viewing angles. What you want are monitors with viewing angles greater than 170/170 degrees (170/170 and below are always TN monitors.

I'd like to add to what Viper said...

The screen finish also matters here. Some screens have a non-reflective finish which limits their viewing angles but they don't suffer from glare. Likewise, there are clear screens which increase viewing angle but suffer from glare.

I like the non-reflective monitors more myself... glare can get really annoying and can be bad for you (like cause headaches and stuff).
