Question about the $100 Microsoft coupon for trade-ins

Just wondering if anybody has done this and how thoroughly they check the consoles. I have an 80gb fat PS3 that doesnt read discs. Works fine for anything else (downloaded games, streaming, etc), and I know they just recycle the trade-ins. Any ides if they'll check to see if it reads discs or if they'll just power it on and that's it? Any help/advice appreciated, Thanks.

You're taking a gamble. I'm sure they will mark it somehow to know who it came from, and they will probably test it (not sure how thoroughly). Could be with just a power on.

But

If they fully test it, or a week or so later, when they do and they look to see who sent it there is a chance they will charge it to your debit/credit card for the 100 dollars. Of course there are moral things I won't mention to take into account but I'm sure they will fully test it right away, then send you an email, along with a charge etc for 100 bucks on your card.

You could try. Odder things have happened in the gaming world. Whatever you do I wish you the best my friend.

Edit: maybe someone else can shed more specific light on this. I'm sure I've seen talk about this in some thread before but I can't recall which.

Thanks for the info! As far as the moral issue, I have thought about it but I read that they were just being recycled anyways. Also, I don't have a credit or debit card, do you think that would be required for the trade?

In my opinion you have nothing to lose. Yes they will mark your name but there is no way for them to know when it failed or if it failed after test. If they accept it in store, you are golden. If they check the drive and it doesnt work then you just have to say sorry and you didnt realize it was broken.
