Question about Xbox Live Family account

My boss currently has an xbox live family membership. I just bought him a 12-month live membership card for christmas. Is he going to be able to use this with his current family membership? I forgot about his family membership when I bought it, and I don't want to give him a 12-month card if it can't be used with his family deal. Thanks.

Edit - From xbox support twitter - NO the 1 year cards are worthless to people on a family account. LAME!

IIRC I think your boss would be able to use the card, but it would only give 6 month extension.

this reminds me, i need to make sure my family plan does not renew - so I can go back to individual

You can add up to 32 months to an account, it says right on the back of the subscription card/package.
