Question on the value of FF VII for PC

I was checking values of some stuff on Half.com and I noticed that Final Fantasy VII for PC is pretty high.

So I visited the basement and found the copy I had ($6 at Half-Price Books, maybe in 2000). Mine is a "Platinum Ed." not the cool trapazoidal box.

I checked out ebay and values looked soft overall. So, I listed mine for $49.99 on half.com . . . 6 hours later it sold . . . WTF.

Should I have asked for more?

Why is this game hot?

I got it because I didn't have a PS1 . . . but, as I recall, it didn't play all that great on the PC.

Yeah, I would put a mint copy of the first edition on ebay . . .
 
Heh. It amazes me that anyone has room to keep game boxes. I always tried to keep my PC games boxed as long as possible, but the games I have at this point would fill up a room. I do have the fold-out holder for the FFVII discs though. Definitely not mint.
 
i hate PC games.. well.. PC versions of Console games.. they never play right for some reason.. way to go on getting 50 dollars for a FF7 i say thats an accomplishment all on its own its the most common PS1 game of all time.
 
I remember selling my FF7 complete PC version on Ebay back in 2000 for $7. :)

It was hard to get FF7 to look right on new video cards back at release (had to use a beta patch and modified a setting in registry). I can't imagine it fares any better now.

I used to keep almost every game box. Eventually I had a closet full of those full-size boxes. I eventually threw away all but 2 or 3. It is much easier to keep boxes now that they are so small, but I don't buy nearly as many games as I used to. Every game I buy now is a AAA title which I wouldn't want to throw the box away anyway.

If it went up $43 in 6 years, maybe it'll sell for $100 in 2012.

I played it once or twice and it only increased my urge to shift toward console gaming.

Same here.


I busted my ass mowing lawns to buy it from Sams Club. It never even ran properly on the computer I had at the time.
 
It was terribly unstable on my computer. Now that you mention computer boxes...I lost the discs, but I still have the box mint. I have no idea what possessed me to keep the box, but somehow lose the game.
 
Yeah, it's weird how the PC version costs so much second-hand these days. One of the things my buddy was doing to prepare for being sent to Iraq was look for FFVII for PC. Sold out in all stores, and we were dumb-founded why online prices were so high. We wound up just buying some PS1 versions and fandangaling an emulator to work.

I know for sure there were at least two different boxes (don't remember if they also released a jewel case version). Whether or not those are just repackaged leftovers from a single print run, I don't know.
