THANKS!

1. How much is it a month?

3 DVDs out at-a-time for $19.99
2 DVDs out at-a-time for $14.99
1 DVD out at-a-time for $9.99
Streaming only for $7.99
(Add $2 each for Blu-ray prices)

2. Is the quality of the stream good?

Yes is is very good, sometimes you get semi-HD quality.

3. I hear there is bluray streaming, is this any good?

No such thing as "blu-ray streaming." You can get blu-rays in the mail or stream HD tv shows (if available).

4. Do they have recent tv releases; like do they update that the week of, or after the show has aired?

No. The rate netflix get their tv releases is based on DVD releases of said tv show. DVD/Blu-rays will be available first, then streams. Current tv programing is not available during its season (PSN video section however does release the show the week of for a price).

5. whats ur overall opinion of it?

For $12 bucks a month I get a blu-ray and instant streaming on my tv, computer, laptop, etc is an amazing deal. Been watching old shows (X-Files is awesome!) and movies. The Mail in blu-rays move as fast as I can flip them. No need for me to have 2 out at a time, 1 is more than enough.

TV is pretty much only used for sports.

Worth every penny.

j-cart nailed it... For me, I stick with the unlimited streaming, the disc plan sucks because you got to pay extra for Blu-rays (Blockbuster don't). Besides, the disc plans are now a buck more (unlimited streaming is a buck less though).

Overall, the service has been great. I only experienced three hiccups so far (one of them actually a glitch on Netflix's end, they gave me an extra day for free ). The other two hiccups were resolved when I stop and restart the video (a pain I know, but manageable and crap happen).

Major complaints...
1. Japanese animations are dubbed in English, no freaking way to change to Japanese with English subtitle, sucks big time (where on disc, you can almost always do that).
2. Few foreign films also suffer from the dubbed English problem. I hate it... Streaming has no control over audio and subtitles!
3. New contents not available (an on going issue)
4. Subtitles/close captions not available... Some videos have "loud" setting, while some have low. I hate to adjust the volume so that I can hear without disturbing other people in the house. Subtitles are very useful in situations like this, but alas, not available...

My two cents: If you're looking for all the latest releases - you'll be disappointed. If you really dig deep into what is available for streaming, you'll have more than enough to keep you busy for a long time. The quality is very good, depending on your internet connection, and the service is worth the asking price.

A few added notes:

Supposedly subtitles is one item they are currently working with.

Some tv shows are available on Netflix prior to the dvd being released. For example, Parks and Recreation Season 2 is available for streaming right now. Legend of the Seeker was also available on Netflix shortly after it aired. That said, Hulu is the better option at this juncture.

Starz Play puts up quite a few newer movies for viewing.

I agree with the general consensus that Netflix is great. In my family, we use it primarily for streaming kids shows, but it's fun to just start watching something at random on occasion. We've found quite a few good movies we'd never have watched otherwise. It's well worth the $10 we pay each month for the one-disc/unlimited streaming plan.

Oh, kids' shows are great too, but I don't understand why there's no Word World. I mean it got Sid the Science Kid, it got Super Why... Also, episodes are limited as well.

Man, the whole thing with streaming rights is spun out of control. It's confusing as crap! There are new contents available right away or before dvd releases. Then there are stuff not available till 30 days later. Finally, there are stuff never available :whistle2:( (CSI? Forget about it)

We've been wondering the same thing! The kids also currently watch

  • Fraggle Rock
  • Inspector Gadget
  • Blue's Clues
  • VeggieTales
  • Hello Kitty
  • Shaun the Sheep
  • She-Ra Season 1
Super Why and Sid both get watched often as well.

Yeah, unfortunately, not many episodes available :whistle2:( But there a number of different shows to choose from. However, kids tend to stick to the shows they like... I also noticed She-ra was available last night

In general, the streamed videos from Netflix is better than Hulu (I'm comparing to the Hulu samples since I'm not a paying member of Hulu).

Streaming Spongebob or family guy is virtually no difference from watching dvds... I did notice that in the very beginning of the video, for few seconds there were pixelated pictures. Maybe that's because the video was being loaded at the time?

Netflix has switched to an algorithm where they start streaming at low resolution and then gradually increase the resolution to the maximum supported by your connection. I think the idea is that you can start watching immediately, instead of waiting for the server to perform a bandwidth test before it begins streaming.

Netflix streaming is probably one of the best values you can get for your dollar at this moment. I'm surprised they don't charge much more for it.

Unlike Gamefly, they have enough distro centers where you don't have to wait for a disc for 5 days. They even have one in mpls where the turnaround time is only 2 days for me.

They don't leave out the slow-as-moleasses DSL people like me who live out in the country either. I've had it chug on me and buffer maybe 2-3 times total since I've used the service.

We just got Netflix and it is great on my PS3 with plugged in ethernet. The audio was out of synch on an old episode of Simon and Simon going wireless, but that is probably because I still have a Wireless B Linksys router from 2003. It sucked on the Wii too with wireless so I'm going to get a new wireless router here at some point. I have a Macbook Pro that supports Wireless N and the PS3 and Wii support Wireless G. Would a simple $50 Cisco-Linksys Wireless N 1000 work for streaming in HD to the PS3 still? I'd prefer to go wireless since if I plug in I have a 100 foot cable running across the hall and such.

I have the basic setup... A wireless router and cable modem. The PS3 is connected via WiFi, so everything is wireless (PSN or Netflix). Watching Netflix is literally instant... I had neighbors asking me "do you have to wait a little bit?" I was puzzled because I don't get what she meant by "wait." Then of course, she told me she stream from the Wii

I don't stream from my Wii and I'm not going to. I haven't try on the Xbox, but I'm sure the quality and speed is more or less the same. However, on the Xbox, I don't know how to bypass the "friends online/offline" notifications (they're annoying if you're watching video). On the PS3, I just create a new account (with no friends obviously) so that I can watch the movies in peace.

You can share a netflix account. I cant recall what the limit to simultaneous streams is, but I just set up a second PS3 to stream from the bedroom, my PS3 in the living room streams, my MIL streams from her wii, my BIL streams at his house. All from one account. Sometimes there are delays in connecting but otherwise its great. Easier to catch up on older TV shows than to BT them.

As I recall, you can set up Netflix for as many devices you'd like within the same home. Anything outside of that is against TOS and can get your account canceled.

really? That sucks because I am sharing one with a friend. No issues for a couple months now.

My friend's netflix setup is totally different from mine. Mine would show a couple movies from a couple categories and his would show ALOT/ALL the movies on one category in one page. I tried to see if I could change settings but there was nothing. Anyone know how to change the settings for netflix? I suppose it's the user interface I am referring to.

Expect current ongoing tv shows to appear of netflix stream next fall.

The current selection is excellent for foreign, documentary and independent films.

If you're looking for new shows, you should stick to Hulu. Netflix is awesome for movies and lots of old TV shows, but you wont get any new TV programming.

Hulu Plus works on the PS3 and is $7.99/month.

Netflix isn't that great with new releases in general, disk or stream.

I have a two disc account and use that for movies and stream tv shows, comedy specials, or older movies on the PS3 via wifi and it's great. Of course I still have On-Demand and all the movie channels too so I'm kind of an ass to comment!

I agree with everyone who states Netflix is a great deal for your dollar. I've had it since their inception. Even if they stopped making content available, there's enough movies, tv shows, etc to keep you watching for years. An absolute must if you have kids (took my 360 to the beach as well as Disneyworld and Netflix kept them quiet at night). Haven't took my PS3 on a trip yet. If your looking for immediate releases it's not the best thing in the world, but they're "tricks" behind that too.

2 things to remember if you decide on the disc plan:

#1. Find which Post Office has the best turnaround (this makes a big difference. the PO near me picks up/scans my returns between 3-5am M-F. A little bit later in the day the next ones are sent).

#2. Once you find 1 with a quick turnaround time (and you start doing it), don't reply to any emails they send you ("how was the quality, when did X come in, have you received X, etc). You might get "flagged" (I forget the correct term for it, but it can possibly delay you receiving mailed movies. Especially new releases).

I just dropped from the 3 plan to the 2 (and might drop to 1), because like most, the discs just sit there on my kitchen table for days/weeks. Gotten so much into the habit of streaming, the discs become a sort of "last resort" when I can't find anything to watch on regular TV.

They drew me in with the one month free deal. I was really surprised at all the great titles they had via streaming. I thought it was going to be a lot of garbage. Movies that I've wanted to buy, I've been able to watch them via netflix. Right now I'm watching Coach Season two, Full meta Alchemist (season 1), and I just finish watching Robotech: The Macross Series. 10 dollars a month and there's better stuff on netflix than on TV. I just need them to hook me up with Sanford and Son via streaming!
