R-Type Command demo available on PLAYSTATION Store

First. I'm a dirty little whore for R-Type.

Second. This game isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It seems a little silly but after Final the direction they chose is logical. That game hyped up the 'Army of R-Types' to the max. Like who didn't go "Hell yeah!" when in a late stage in the game you had to fight nothing but R-Types as an infected Bydo craft. Shit R-Type Final is so dope.

But back to this game. They could have given more explanation since there is none. But it works like any other turn based strat. game. But damn they could have given a warning that a charged shot from one of your R-Types will OBLITERATE everything including your own crafts in front of the blast.

I can't recommend this to anyone else but fans though. I know that's why I'll be buying it. I love the R-Type universe and this looks to flesh out things even more. I even love the info they give on walls. The damn walls.

Does this have traditional shooter elements once you pick your battles via the turn-based stuff or is it just straight-up strategy?

It's Advanced Wars in an horizontal R-Type setting. You don't do any shooting.

It's really a strange natural extension from R-Type Final (where they began testing out the AI battle modes and showing squadrons of R-Types battling the Bydo instead of just one).

damn I dont even want this game, I heard it's boring and I got a PSP SRPG backlog which I'll prolly take to the grave...

but it looks like we'll be getting an awesome pre-order bonus!

hmmm... pre-order, buy, return to the store??

Damn. Atlus and Irem figured out a way to get me to buy the game before it's inevitable price drop. Dirty dirty dirty bastards.

(And I already own a near complete set of the first series of Shooting Game Historica models. Missing a blue Silver Hawk.)

fock mang...

looking at that toy again makes me wanna buy two of them... so they can fight each other

why couldnt the images on the gashapon sets be that big???

when you're on play asia or ncsx the image is so small that you dont even kno whether or not you want them

lol oh shit Jekki I felt the same way when these first came out. I was like "Oh. Kinda... I dunno. Lame looking. I'll pass." Then I saw the Kotaku article a little while ago for the next set (featuring the R9 from R-Type 3 with that funky looking Force) of Shooting Game Historica models and I was like "Hey! That looks like a pile of potentially cool!" So I went to NCSX and saw that they were selling the first set and they had links to bigger pictures (they have big pictures of each model on their news page)! I was sold then although they no longer have the full set and finding them all is going to become increasingly harder.

So yeah, if you want to own a classic looking R9, take this as your opportunity. I really do love these little models. They don't take up a ton of space. Have a lot of detail in them. Are simple and fun to put together. They make me want to shoot things more. Hell, I just bought R-Types after seeing this new black model.

whaaaaat?!?! this game comes out this week o_O!!

I didnt even pre-order... I doubt I can get the toy...

whatever, I guess in the end it's actually a good thing ^_^v

I am thinking the initial batch will have the figures, not just preorders. That is because they only announced the bonus less than a week before launch of the game which didn't really give time for the preorders at stores to even reach the manufacturer in time. If the bonus was supposed to make you want to pre-order then they probably should have released the information on the pre-order a lot longer in advance than one week.

From what I've heard, these are just leftover bonuses from Japan, as this was their giveaway bonus as well.

I think Atlus did this a last ditch effort, because nobody seems to care this game is even coming out, but giving away this little bonus seemed to spike up a fair amount of interest in people who were just going to wait on it or pass on it.

I don't think it was planned at all for the US to ever get this, but I think Japan had so many leftover that Atlus was like "well, let's just throw them to the US now, sure, it's late, but we'll get a few more extra sales on things just sitting in the warehouse".

As for myself, I was really interested in the preorder bonus, but I don't think game will be worth $40 at all... $30 and I would have bit, but not at $40, not when I don't even own things like FFT or Disgaea yet. I'm thinking you'll see this game for $20 in a few months time.

I played the demo and enjoyed it, but not sure when I'll get it. I still need to pick up GoW, Patapon, and other PSP games. Once I get them, I may get this.

Hmmm. Amazon. Ship it already.

So for those who bought the game for the figure. Think of it as knocking 15 bucks off of the actual game because like you'd be spending that much just to get the R9 by itself.

Hmm I tried the demo and didn't really like it. It put me to sleep actually. Its kinda like Advance Wars only not as good. There are only like 4 different ships and all the different commands are really confusing and not very intuitive on what does what. The pace is kind of slow and the music was pretty boring too. Maybe I will get my figure and return the game a couple weeks down the road.
why not just make a regular shooter? makes no sense.
Irem wanted to try something different (kind of like how they made Metal Gear Acid on PSP). Many games on PSP tend to go the strategy route though (there are a bunch of import shooters on PSP also).

Here is an IGN review (got a 7.3):

Kind of makes me want it more. I want to get it, but my backlog is crazy and don't have time.

The full game probably has more.

I wouldn't say it was as good as Advance Wars (Field Commander is still the kind strategy game on PS3 IMO that isn't an RPG), but it was still fun.

I'm really really enjoying this game. Missions take awhile to beat. I'm sure if I had a PSP 2k, the loading times would be reduced. But yeah, it's a fun game, and a great take on the series. Now ships like the Midnight Eye and Grace Note from Final actually make sense (ME for radar and GN for sniping). I'm really glad that they made the game. Yeah it does have a slower slower pace but it's not as bad as it seems once you have like a dozen units to manage.
