I was wondering, what are some RARE, SCARCE, and/or VALUABLE games for ps2, xbox, and gcn. I know of a few, and believe that i have a couple (marvel vs. capcom 2 for ps2 and ikaruga for gcn), but was just curious about any that i am unaware of, since i have become quite interested in collecting rare games (as well as playing them). thanks for the help.

Rez and Disgaea seem to be pretty hotly sought after for the PS2. I don't know if they're rare or not, but I know I'm not letting go of my Disgaea any time soon.

Please, please. Specify which you want to know:

*Rare* games?
*Valuable* games?

I say this because these threads always degrade into whiny people on their soapboxes - "That's not rare, it's just valuable because everyone loves it, but it ISN'T RARE YOU MORON!"

Please deny the whiners their rants and go back and edit your question to be more specific. I have been curious about this as well...

edited to clarify rare and add valuable. thanks chosen1s. ive been wondering about this for a long time myself.
Gitaroo Man is rare. Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance is rare sealed, hard to find used.
I saw Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance for ps2 used at Eb games for 27.99, should I pick it up?

yeah change from rare to scarce it makes a diffrence, scares just means the demand was way greater than the supply, rare dont mean shit, theres some crappy invaluable games that are rare

edited to add "scarce." added scarce instead of replacing "rare" with it, since i would like to know of any rare games even if they were "crappy and invaluable." im guessing that there has been some problems with clarity in threads like this before...

I saw two copies of Ikaruga today at BB, so I do not think these are rare.

just do a search, there are so many topics on this already. This is the kind of topic that get nowhere fast because rare isnt same for everyone. I mean one person could think MvC2 is rare but another person could get sealed copies easily. If you are just looking for "VALUABLE" than just spend a tittle effort on ebay.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 (PS2), Firefighter FD 18 (PS2), Fatal Frame (PS2), NCAA Basketball (GC) and i believe RE 3 Nemesis is still hard to find.

It's still too early to tell about valuable, rare, scarce, whatever games for the current generation systems.

Once this generation ends and games stop getting made, then we'll see what becomes hard to find.

I can safely wager though that anything by Atlus will starts becoming "rare" and "valuable", just like almost all of their other games.

A lot of titles are now "scarce" but hardly valuable:
(well, scarce to find in GOOD condition)

Oni PS2
Disaster Report PS2
Portal Runner PS2
Hidden and Dangerous PS2
X Squad PS2
Stretch Panic PS2
Mad Maestro PS2
Forever Kingdom PS2
Mister Mosquito PS2
City Crisis PS2
Metal Dungeon XB
Black Stone XB
D&D Heroes XB

Some are valuable but hardly rare:

Resident Evil 2 and 3 for GCN

Some are just scarce/rare:

Gitaroo Man PS2
Rez PS2
Wizardry: Tales of the Forsaken (or something) PS2
Marvel vs. Capcom (any iteration) PS2, XB

I'll add more when I have time. Feel free to flame while I'm gone.
Isn't there a college football game on the cube thats valauble because it had a limited print?
That's NCAA College Basketball 2k3. It was made right before Sega cancelled their agreement with Nintendo.
Its raking in about $50+ on ebay.

It's funny how that works out, since it's alot cheaper on the DC.

Kind of disappointing that many rare / valuable games (RE 2 and 3, Rez, MvC 2) are just ports of games from different systems.

For my own personal definition, I consider most games that are slightly difficult to find or carry a premium above other games as uncommon. If I can relatively easily find a game (ie a quick search on ebay) and the price to buy it is less than it would have been when it was first released, I do not consider it rare- to me, how can something be rare if you are buying it for cheaper than the msrp without any real difficulty or prolonged search?
For older generations, the rule remains the same, but is qualified by the condition of the game (box , manuals, so on).
Now, many games that are currently uncommon have the potential to become rare as the number of copies floating around decreases- and certainly prior to the web, many of those games would be otherwise considered rare.
Firefighter FD 18 (PS2), Fatal Frame (PS2),

i can get firefighter for 29.99 and got frame for 5 bucks at gc
Price dosen't dictate rarity.

I got Suikoden 2 for 24 dollars, but it's still hard to find.

We need a definitive list. These "what's rare?" threads are out of hand. Maybe I'll start a thread about it and just have people list games. then I'll compile them in the OP.

It's kinda hard to tell what's really 'rare' or 'valuable', since it so dependent on time and location. Suikoden 1 isgetting 'rare' now, but about 5 years ago I could've gotten everyone on this board a copy for 10-20$. Why? Because the PS2 was new, and no one cared about it, and the area's Fred Meyer store was clogged with the game. Then Suikoden 3 came out, people wanted the original, it got bought up, and since most people aren't selling it now, it's 'rare'.

And location- who here would believe me if I said Kingdom Hearts was a bit on the 'rare' side, and impossible to find non-GH? Proably no one, but I don't see it in every store, and I've never seen the non-GH version, save the 2 owned by my friends, and the 1 I bought from MightySlacker. So if anyone wanted to sell their original KH, this is the place to so it, you can get away with calling it 'rare' and charging 30 bucks, I bet.

Just buy games ya like and watch the used prices and availiblity- that'll tell ya if it's rare or valuable...

'Scarce' is the only definite, since it's tied right into print run.

Does anyone think that the gamestop special edition of RE:4 will be worth anything in a few years? It is in the $35-$70 range on ebay these days.
