I finished watching the ALL Seasons of..

The Shield (One of my Fav show of all time)
The Wire (Fantastic, top 3 shows of all time)

now my Netflix queue is empty, Pleas recommend TV Shows similar to the two listed above. Also how is Breaking bad? any good? Pleas dont recommend no Law & Order (cant stand that crap).

Thanks

From what I saw of The Beast it definitely had a Shield vibe going on with it. Only downside is Swayze's death will certainly seal its fate it would seem.

Good call on that, I never seen that show, always wanted to though...but after his death I would hate to get hooked on the show, knowing their will not be another season

Homicide:Life on the street

It was a series based on David Simon's Book Homicide: A year on the killing streets. David Simon wrote and created The Wire.

YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!

Not much can compare to The Wire. Certainly not in the police drama subgenre. It set the bar so high that I can't get into any other cop shows.

As far as crime in general, Dexter is the way to go. Or Epitafios (a miniseries from Argentina that was on HBO) or this one I'm curious about and queued up called Wire In The Blood that is supposed to be like Dexter. Epitafios was pretty good.

^Always heard about "Dexter" no clue what it was about, just read about it, and its available on Netflix Instant queue, sounds great to me

Here is how my Queue looks now, thanks guys

1.Breaking Bad Season 1
2.Homicide Life on Street Season 1 & 2

Instant Queue
1. Dexter S1
2. Dexter S2

I know this might be sound weird but I love mobster flicks (Good Fellas, Carlitos way).....but yet I never seen a single episode of The Sopranos, is it as great as people make it out to be?

Hmm... Since it appears you like shows that begin with "The" allow me to recommend:
The Apprentice
The Amazing Race
The Bachelor and The Bachelorette

Yeah if you liked The Wire then you definitely need to check out Homicide Life on the Streets. It is hands down one of the best shows of all time. It was waaay ahead of its time. Plus as an added bonus there are a lot of actors that are in both shows.

Sons of Anarchy.......I believe its by the producer of The Shield. Season 2 just started a cpl of weeks ago. Sopranos is good, not as good as The Shiled or The Wire imo, but worth watching.

Have you ever seen HBO's "The Corner"? That's got a lot of Wire actors. All playing characters on opposites sides of the fence. Daniels is a crackhead, Sydnor is a dealer, Freeman is a crackhead, Landsman is the scrapyard owner, Daniels wife was a crackhead, Prop Joe is in it somewhere too I think.

Anybody who loved The Wire needs to see The Corner too. It's great as an unofficial companion piece.

I second ( or third) Homicide. But you will have watch two episodes of law & order to finish two-parters.

These shows definitely don't match up to The Wire and The Shield (what does?) but you might want to try Boomtown and Southland. Boomtown takes place in LA and centers primarily around cops and the DA. Southland also takes place in LA and focuses on cops and attornies. The Southland season 1 DVD doesn't have a release date yet but will start it's second season on 10/23 so hopefully it will be released a week or two before then.

I'd reccomend Brotherhood. It aired 3 seasons on Showtime. The series is about two brothers who take different paths in life. One is a state Senator and the other is tied in with the Irish mob. It's set in Providence, RI.

It blends crime and politics, kind of like The Wire. It also has similar mob and family elements like The Sopranos. It's available for Instant watching on Netflix.

I have watched that series and I agree. although it is not as good as The Wire or Homicide.
They're not cop shows but The Unit & Sons of Anarchy both have ties to The Shield.
I definitely second The Unit. Shawn Ryan (creator of The Shield) is one of the producers along with David Mamet. The Unit is easily one of the best shows of the last 5 years and definitely the most underappreciated. I give it the highest recommendation.

You'd think Ryan + Mamet + David Palmer would be a no-brainer....if it were on FX or HBO, but unfortunately its on CBS, and that kills it. Sons of Anarchy has more of The Shield's 'spirit' IMHO.

I watched the first episode of The Beast but everything about it really screamed "I soooo want to be the new Shield!".

I would recommend Damages, but its not particularly violent (despite having a hitman played by the guy who played, er, Hitman). If you enjoy jigsaw puzzle style shows where you really have to follow every detail (which admittedly won't be everyone's cup of), its really rewarding.

BTW did anyone ever watch the FX miniseries "THIEF" that aired a couple of years ago, starring Andre Braugher? That was fucking amazing and probably my favorite piece of television in years (Its on Hulu).

It's pretty hilarious people are naming off OLD shows that have been done BEFORE the Wire. I don't understand how that show is so overrated and that people think it's "unique" or in some way "original".

great show! Currently the first 2 seasons are available on Netflix for streaming

I really disliked how The Unit tried to bridge together the solider portion of the story with the housewife portion. It's like half the show was guys trying to survive being blown up and the other half was housewives trying to figure out what to cook for dinner.

I disagree. A show can be on a network and still provide good storylines and The Unit was definitive of that.

I don't know what show you're referencing but it's certainly not The Unit.

Even though it's really not much like either, I'll throw The Commish out there. It's worth a watch just to see Michael Chiklis playing about as different a cop from Vick Mackey as can be.

Another great show was Robbery Homicide Division. The problem is that I don't think it was ever released on DVD. It was being shown in reruns on Universal HD at one point but I'm not sure that it's still on. It starred Tom Sizemore and was produced by Michael Mann and was similar in tone to his movie Heat. Unfortunately it aired opposite Law & Order:SVU, got pretty beat up in the ratings and was canelled after only 10 episodes. Don't let the short run speak to it's quality though. If it ever gets a DVD release be sure to check it out.
