Recommend new PC monitor before I go blind.

Spacepest

CAGiversary!
Today, my hardworking monitor of 8 years finally died. I've already had the thing repaired twice, and I'm going to let it stay dead this time.

Problem is, I need a new monitor. Right now I am using my Samsung LCD TV as a replacement monitor, and OMG the screen resolution sucks horribly. Playing online games with text is just about impossible, and just surfing the internet and reading anything text based gives me a headache.

So please fellow CAGers, give me some recommendations for a new PC monitor. What can I do for about $300 or less? Has anyone seen any nifty deals lately?

P.S. I appologiize for any typos on this post...my screen rez sucks that bad.

If you can hold out until black friday, there are some pretty good deals on 17 and 19" monitors.

Best Buy will have a MAG 19" for $170 after rebates:

We paid $450 for it earlier this year and getting for $170 is a hell of a deal. It's not the best LCD, but it looked damn good for only $450 at the time. It's an amazing price at $170.

Oh, I completely forgot about Black Friday!

Must...resist...buying...new monitor...until then....

Seriously though, I'm not that picky...I'd still settle for a CRT monitor.
If you are picky those Samsung LCDs are mighty fine. :) I've even found DELL LCDs to be reliable and dirt cheap.
Yeah, from reviews Ive read in PC Magazines most of the Dell LCDs score pretty well.

got a dell 2005fpw one for $384 shipped and its damn good monitor. If you look at fatwallet and hardforum you could find some coupons that I think are still good to get the monitor for around the same price.
Just wait till Black Friday. Its only 2 weeks away.
from the ads i have seen.... they are basically giving discounts on crappy items they have to many of. I dont quite see how black friday is as good as people make it out to be... this whole time i have been here people have been telling everyone "Wait for dat dern black friday!" and its close and i dont see to much.... If theres a monitor you like go for it. Dont wait for black friday just of rhte sake of getting a deal ... and dont get something just because its cheap... good luck:bouncy:

Thank you for the suggestions everyone. I might not have to wait until Black Friday.

I mentioned to my husband over dinner about using our big screen LCD TV which is equipped to handle PC resolution to use for my new PC monitor.

My "suggestion" had the effect that I predicted it would...hubby will be taking me out tommorrow to buy a new monitor, because he can't live with the fact that "his" big screen TV will be hogged up by my PC gaming. As soon as we got home from dinner, he spent a few hours surfing the internet for new monitor deals. (Although it would have been fun to play on The Big Screen for awhile, I'm sure my hubby's habit of pestering me during WoW raids would have eventuallly ruined it. Better to keep the gaming PC with a seperate monitor in my office).

And I really haven't seen anything so far advertised for a Black Friday sale that I have wanted. And I"m not sure I trust my hubby to wait for another Black Friday sale, its how I ended up with this current POS "monitor" in the first place. (But then again, its partially my fault for sleeping in during last year's Black Friday, but then again, none of my local stores had anything on sale I wanted to buy, hence my reason for sleeping in on one of those most holy of CAG days).
