In my endless ongoing search for new music, I'd like to hear people's recommendations on some great lesser known CDs that you think every music-lover should hear.

Please limit your choice to only one CD - so make it a good one.

One semi-new CD that I think people should hear is the debut from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. If you haven't heard it yet go get it right now!

This is tough, to narrow it down to just one. I think I'd have to give it to Pink, by Boris. It's probably their most accessible album, and it's a masterpiece. There are so many others I want to say though.

I'm pretty sure this is an album everyone has heard of, or at least everyone in my group of friends, but nonetheless everybody should own it.

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come

I can't tell you how amazing this whole CD is. It's a shame they didn't release more stuff. I wonder if they would have degenerated into the screamo bullshit that ripped them off. I don't know, but I don't judge this CD by the music put out by bands that were influenced by this.

Most people dont know ITech.

Immortal Technique: Revolutionary Volume 1/Volume 2. Both are amazing.

I can't narrow it down to one, so I am going to list one for each type of music:

hip hop - Tonedeff "Archtype"
female singer/songwriter - A Girl Called Eddy "A Girl Called Eddy"
trip hop - I lied, here is two ablums: Daughter Darling "Sweet Shadows" and Hooverphonic "Presents Jackie Cane"
Drum'N'Bass - Amon Tobin (though he is getting popular after scoring Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory) "Adventures In Foam"
Folk style bar music - Great Big Sea "The Hard And Easy"

Hey, this is a very good cd. I own it. Perhaps you should check out the Shins if you like them.

As for my one cd, I would recommend "Perfect From Now On" by Built to Spill. Awesome Cd that is about 10 years old.

I don't understand the huge following of bss and five iron,

Refused - The Shape of Punk to Come
I couldn't agree more, they really started the recent sound thats come out and been repeated so many times lately. But they originated it, and made it 10,000 times better.
I'm glad to see people know who they are.

he is legend - i am hollywood

Awesome CD, you really do have to sit down and listen to it a few times to really appreciate it though. I don't like the new style they're going for on the new cd though. It's still ok.

I'll have to go with my favorite CD of all time (so far):

Project 86 - Drawing Black Lines.

It's not for most, its dark and heavy. It's not metal, or numetal, it's just a dark rock album.

Andrew Schwab (the vocalist) writes some pretty awesome lyrics. He's matured alot lyrically with their last 2 albums but the style of the two are a bit lighter and more melodic. Still good, but DBL just has a special place with me.

I don't understand the huge following of Project 86. :)

Different tastes, that's all there is to it.

Five Horse Johnson- The Last Men on Earth

Don't know why this band gets no love. Heck they had a song on a Tony Hawk game and theres not even a Wiki page about em'. Great southern sounding, gritty voiced, rock awesomeness.

EDIT:
Heres their site. You can listen to 2 of their songs at the bottom left.

American Pearl (self-titled)

Kicks absolute ass and is worth owning for any rock fan.

Stars - Set Yourself On Fire

This has been my favorite album for awhile now. All my friends end up liking it to. They're a Canadian Indie band that I first heard on Degrassi.
Here's their MySpace, with some of their songs: http://myspace.com/stars
Here's some samples of each track: http://www.deepdiscountcd.com/index.cfm?request=cd.cfm?upc=060270061927

BTW, I could name like 10 others.

That's why I only wanted one from each poster - this way I know it will be damn good. If people jsut start posting recommendations of all types of stuff it becomes impossible to weed through it all. As it stands now there's like 20 CDs I have to at least give a listen to and this thred will hopefully get bigger. :)

Yeah, I know how you feel. I just named the one I've been listening to the most. Let us know what you end up liking, cuz now I'm curious ;)

If I had to pick one out of the ones I listed, it would be Hooverphonic "Presents Jackie Cane" though Tonedeff's Archtype album kicks major ass.

any jamiroquai album. i have yet to hear an album released by them i didnt love instantly . theyve got a sound that stretched across decadeds but not in an annoying hey im christina aguilera trying to relive the 20's kind of way. you can hear the classic sound but its brought up to the present and in some cases the future.

and older bu george michael was a great album ( yeah blah blah blah call me gay for liking it ) and alot of his music during his solo career still holds up today. damn shame hes got an addiction to nose candy cause he could have ended up a musical legend.

oh yeah and both of the crow soundtracks were awesome too especially the first one. shame the second movie was such a turd.

I can't pass up a suggestion topic without mentioning the godly Jeff Buckley. Most people have heard of him, but surprisingly not his music. The man had a voice like no other I've ever heard. The only album he released while he was alive was "Grace", and it is the greatest album ever. If you want to listen to the entire album go here:

Here's the video to the title track:

I got the CD and saw them live (free tickets at Ameoba, a record store), great stuff. One band nobody listens to is The Lovely Feathers. Hind Hind Legs, semi-new CD, tis awesome.
Lovage - Music To Make Love to Your Old Lady By
Excellent choice.

I don't know how well known this is, but "Dillinger Escape Plan - Irony Is A Dead Scene" is pure gold. It's only four songs, but these four songs will melt your face off.

of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic

In some respects I prefer their older, less...danceable albums, but this is the one I always find myself listening to. It's probably their most accessible, too.

Neverending White Lights - Act 1: Goodbye Friends of the Heavenly Bodies

Daniel Victor managed to create one of the finest albums I have ever heard in my entire life. I can't begin to go on about how excellent it is. It is absolutely the most perfect disc to play when it gets dark. It's haunting, and beautiful, simple, but complex, and never gets old or boring thanks to the revolving door of vocal talent such as Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace that each lend their amazing abilities to a new and different song.

You owe it to yourself to at least check it out, at night, with the lights off, letting it be the only thing you focus on. If you can't appreciate it, even after that, then frankly I don't want to know you.

His MySpace: http://myspace.com/neverendingwhitelights Do avoid the remix though, it effs with Daniels vision.

I'd recommend all four of the Silent Hill soundtracks (though not as much 3 and 4, though 3 is better than 4), but if I had to pick one, it would be 2. 1 is still good, but considering how very little of it is musical, I doubt it would really appeal to anyone.

"Laura's Theme" (and its reprise), "Promise" (and its reprise), and "Love Psalm" FTW.

Great cd, but Broken Social Scene is a better band imo.

hmmm one album? Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I am Dreaming

Its a beautiful album full of intense lyrics and memorable songs.... If you ever get the chance to see them live, its amazing as well.
