Recommended electric razors for shaving head.

CAGiversary!
I just started to shave my head however using shaving gel is getting old.  I started out using a Head Blade and it works great, but it doesn't shave as smooth as I would like.  That could be because the blades it came with are only 3 blades.  That's why after being told not to use 5 blades by everyone that I know who shave their head I did.  I used my normal razor and the 5 blades work great.  However I don't care to keep using shave gel every few days to keep up with it.  I have an old electric razor that I never liked and after using it last night I noticed it doesn't get as close as I would like.

I think someone posted once before asking, hell it might have been me and that's when I went with the Head Blade, but if you use an electric razor to shave your head what one do you use?  If you have tried different ones what caused you to switch?  I have read reviews for Braun, Panasonic and Phillips products however they all seem to be a mix of the same things.

I have shaved my head since I was 19 years old, so for almost 15 years. Electric razors on the head seriously suck, from my experience. I would even get dry skin patches on my head at times, red patches on your dome are not a good look. I started using blades and it was a lot better.

I could see shaving your head with gel annoying if it's in front of a bathroom mirror, I did that a couple of times. I always shave my head in the shower with my face. Got a small shower mirror for it.

Just my experience.

A thread I have some experience in:

I used to shave my head with a razor but its a lot of constant work and not to mention costly if you need to shave every few days like I do. I personally don't like a super bald head but prefer 1 to 2 days stubble.

I have 3 types of shavers: Norelco QC5580 trimmer with balder attachment, Wahl Peanut and an Andis BRGC+. All 3 are great but I must say the Phillps is my favorite given the price point. Its cordless and has a lithium ion battery. It has a swivel head that you can rotate so you can shave your head by yourself and not miss a spot. It has different blade attachments but the best one is the balder foil shaver attachment. Using this attachment I can shave my head a few days after to almost bald in under 60 seconds with no knicks or cuts. I would look into it. They go for $80 but I just recently purchased it from Walmart for just under $50 with free site to store. Another plus is if you don't like it you can always return it purchasing it from here.

As for the red bumps, if you shave your head you are more prone to ingrown hairs. To eliminate this issue, shave your head with the grain and you can use something like Bump Patrol or Bump Stopper which will open your head pores and allow your follicles to breathe.

Hope that helps

I will check into the Bump Patrol and Bump Stopper.  I ended up getting a Norelco 1250 I think it is.  Seems to be working well.  I have used it both wet and dry and it seems to do a better job with gel than it does dry.  Odd thing is for my facial hair it doesn't work at all.
