So someone pointed me in the direction of Game Save Manager, a little program that works with Dropbox to distribute your game saves across computers.

Unfortunately for me, this lovely little program decided to delete all of my game saves and the backup for some reason is a 72kb dud. Anyone know of a program that will help me get my saves back? This only happened a few minutes ago.

Whatever you do...stop using the PC with the missing files IMMEDIATELY!!...Get on another computer, set up the file recovery software there, then pull the drive from the affected PC and mount it as a slave drive in the recovery PC (direct IDE or SATA works best...no USB enclosures). Then run the recovery software on the drive.

If you continue to use the affected PC, the creation and deletion of temporary files are potentially further destroying the data you want to recover.

Yeah if your PC overwrites that sector where the file was you're basically SOL, and you have no control over what Windows writes where.

Yep, I threw open some recovery software and it looks like I'm pretty screwed, the files are largely reported as overwritten or badly damaged. I suppose I'll just have to accept my losses and move on.

RIP:

Super Meat Boy light world completed save with 70 bandages
Borderlands level 60 save
Mount and Blade saves worth ~ 30 hours
and many more :(

At least I don't sit around with half completed saves, all my other games I've either not started or already completed.

You may want to download Recuva if you haven't tried that. I've had good luck with restoring files that were very old.

You didn’t mention which operating system you have been using?? Suppose if it is a Mac OS X then try out Mac file recovery software. This is easy to work with and recovers all the lost or deleted files.
