Nintendo DS is now the official name, the speakers in stereo with or with out headphones, the buttons are bigger, and it is GORGEOUS. In the pics you can see the GBA slot on the bottom, giving you an idea how small it is. I'm SO in line the morning these things hit stores.

[Edit]- GCAdvanced has updated that link with closeups of the buttons.

Damn it! I had my fingers crossed that they would add an analog stick. Hopefully that picture isn't official, and they still will.
one problem

batteries?

if it's the same as the SP, We are a go for launch
I believe it has been reported that the battery life is very close to the SP, and I imagine Nintendo is going to play that up, as the PSPs battery life is somewhat embarassing at this stage in the game.

I really want an analog stick as well

Yeah, that's the final design.

I guess it's alright.

I liked the original design better. I just prayed it was slimmed down.

I'm still getting it release day!!
Awesome.

Thanks for filling us in!!

Jacked from Nintendo's website on DS

Battery & Power Management: The battery is rechargeable and the unit features a low-energy-consumption design. The DS also has Power Management functions of Sleep mode and Standby mode. In Sleep mode, players can stop and resume game play whenever they like. If the user receives a message from a friend or user nearby, DS activates itself from Standby mode

Don't know exactly what that means, but it sounds nifty.

I personally like this new design MUCH more. Nintendo paid attention to the attention PSP was getting for its sleekness, and responded with something much sexier, in my opinion. On a PSP note, I'm still wondering how they are planning on protecting that giant screen. Are they gonna make it clam shell, or release it with a special case, or just expect you to lug it around in a sock?

The activiting itself from standby mode is AWESOME! I mean, think of in the arcade, playing Marvel vs. Capcom, and someone walks up and pops in their quarter. Here Comes a New Challenger!!!

I just thought of an awesome way to get one of these dirt cheap.

Go to your nearest elementary school after it releases. Within a week, at least a dozen of these will have been confiscated by teachers at every elementary in America. Find one of the teachers that took one, and buy it off of her! What's the kid gonna do, cry about it?

Then, find out whose DS you bought. Surely his parents will buy him another one. Make sure he has his new one on him, and send him a message telling him that you were the one that took his first DS!

In case it isn't already obvious enough, I am totally psyched for the DS. It is the single most exciting thing I've seen in years. I havn't felt this kind of giddy anticipation for video games since I was 7 and my parents bought me a Game Boy with Tetris from a garage sale. It didn't have batteries, and the entire drive from that house to the drugstore I was absolutely wired. Leave it to Nintendo to bring out the 7 year old in me.
i think it looks a little bulky for a portable system honestly.
Actually, its not nearly as large as I thought it would be. You can see the GBA slot on the bottom, so it looks like it will be the length of the Advance with the thickness of the SP, maybe a bit thicker.

Wow the original design had me uninterested at best, now I'm seriously considering getting it.

Is it shallow to judge a video game system on it's looks?

its like they gave BMW the plans and asked them to redesign it. VERY nice looking machine. and the stereo is a nice touch.

eh, I'll wait and see how well games implement the idea of two screens before purchasing one.
Not really, although if everyone did, Gamecube would be #1. Both other systems are bulkified.
Because nothing says "super-cool" like a purple cube with a handle.

It's Sony so you'll either have to buy some pricey add on or lug it around in said sock probably. And for all those who want an analog stick, have you seen the one for the PSP. The thing is quite tiny and looks basically unusable, if the stick was gonna be like that I rather they scrap it to be honest.

Boy, that looks reallly small =/

I'm out until I get a feel of the pad in my hands and even then I'm out until the price drops. Portable game just doesn't do it for me any more.

Sure looks sleek though.

The DS finally looks awesome, but I'm waiting for good games to appear on the system first. Well, that and a price drop. Until then, my SP will do just fine :)

Didn't I just buy a GBA and then a year and a half later buy an SP?? - I'm going to wait for some killer apps and maybe a price drop on this before I even consider it. Using the stylus on the toilet seems difficult at best...

When is the rumored release again? I know this year sometime. I really hope these aren't too hard to come by at Christmas time. My wife's family always asks me to make a list and this will most certainly be on it.

i like the idea of analog...but as far as portable gaming right now, no. I like the fact theres nothing that can snap off of the system...with the exception of the stylus, it seems to be sturdy system.

Looks sweet, but don't think there will be a need of purchasing one as soon as it comes out. Ya never know though, plus if it is compatible with the GCN/GBA link cable, well I can always use an extra "controller" for certain games.

Eh. The changes are purely cosmetic. What does this add to the playability of the system? I was fortunate enough to play with the DS at E3 and I was far from impressed. I commend them for their unique perspective on gaming but this "announcement" doesn't really improve the DS. It's eye candy. Nothing more.

That links to this very same thread.
I merged the two topics.
Ohh, I was so confused on how that happend.

It looks better then the E3 versions of it. I want to get one, but I think Ill hold out until a price drop unless it has some must have games.
