Hey guys. Ive been buying lots of PS1/Dreamcast games recently(you'll know if youve see the yard sale thread..), and half the time the cases look like they've been to hell and back.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place to get replacement jewel cases for my games. I need the cases that are like the original PS1/dreamcast, etc. I bought a couple from a CAG a while back, but those were a fluke deal.

I mostly want the cases for some of my own games, but I found 16 dreamcast games recently with terrible cases, and am thinking of swapping them out before I list them on ebay/etc.

ALSO: What are your thoughts on selling/trading games with swapped cases?

You might check Micro Center if you have one in you region. I don't remember if they have suitable replacement cases, but I do know that they have a huge selection of cd jewels, DVD cases and multiple disk cases.

The easiest solution is probably buying DVD cases and printing out custom replacement covers from http://www.thecoverproject.net/

...I actually have the opposite problem. I have a ton of prestine Dreamcast and Playstation games that I don't want to get screwed up. I've been thinking about putting the jewel cases in Universal Game Cases and printing out custom cover art. However, I don't know how to make custom art and I've never seen any PSOne/DC covers made for Universal Game Cases.

It's funny, a lot of the dreamcast games have reprinted cover art, but I didnt even know it was reprinted until I was holding it in my hands. Whoever owned the games used a very good printer and nice paper to print with.

Sadly, no micro center around. I went to some grocery stores and other places today searching for them, found nothing. I think im going to order some off of Wal-Mart or Amazon.

Interesting story, though - In texas there's a grocery store chain called HEB. I work there, and while driving today stopped at an HEB PLUS! store, which is basically a wal-mart(has electronics section, large toy section, etc.)

In the game department I found about 20 copies of GTA4 LE. Some other notables included Soul Calibur 4 LE, Resident evil 5 LE, and some other more common ones. They had some Mana Khemia 2 deluxe sets and Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga games sealed as well.

I might have to go searching for more PLUS stores.

Believe it or not check your local Dollar Store. At mine they sell a pack of three CD jewel cases for $1. They also have a pack of 3 DVD cases for $1.

That or you could just go yard saling. Almost every garage sale has some sort of music for sale. Just toss the discs and use the cases.

BTW if your ever looking for Sega Saturn or Sega CD cases your fucked. You'll never find any inless you just take a case off a sports game.

Best Buy and Wal-Mart definitely carry them. They might be a little pricy (like 50 cents a case), but they're definitely readily available. You can buy just the cases, but a more productive way might be to buy CD-Rs. They usually come in those slim cases, but there are bundles that come with standard sized jewel cases.

Somewhat on topic, does anyone know of a storage solution for those "double decker" jewel cases that they loved to put PS1 RPGs in? I have them just laying on a shelf, but would like to find something like an actual CD rack.

So use a cd rack with dividers every 10 spaces, instead of every 1 space. Also, the standard 3-drawer plastic drawer set,
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-3-Drawer-Medium-Carts-Set-of-2/14147136
is just wide and tall enough for 2 rows of cds.

As for the OP, I'd just buy a box of transparent CD-cases off of eBay. They're cheap, you're not going to find "official" cases anywhere, and I've never been able to tell a difference.

K-MART

10 pack of standard clear Memorex jewel cases for $2.99.

You can't beat that price anywhere, even if you buy in bulk online. I probably go through about 200 cases a year with all my eBay items, so I've pretty much tried everywhere and found K-Mart to be the cheapest.

For the double cases, be aware the two clear plastic parts are just the backs of standard jewel cases. You can easily pop them off the black plastic separator piece in the middle and replace them. There is no need to buy special replacement double disc cases.

THANK YOU

I am headed to KMart tomorrow to replace cases on about 40 PS1 games.
bleh:( K-mart doesnt exist anymore in my city. Oh well, I found another solution, thanks guys!
Target has the same 10 pack of Memorex cases for $3.99. It's still cheaper than Walmart and only slightly more expensive than buying in bulk from an online vendor. I used Target for the longest time until I discovered that Kmart was cheaper.

You guys are talking about the old style thick cases right? Not the slim ones..

I stopped by a doller store, target, and wal-mart today and they all only had packs of the slim cases! Bah! I decided to just order from the CAG I got them from before.

Yes, every single Target I have ever been to has had 10 packs of standard size clear jewel cases from Memorex. They are stored right near the VHS tapes and writable media. Target sells them for $3.99. How much did you pay the CAG?

I just went to another target, and found the ones you have pictured - there were only 2 cases left and they were hidden underneath a shelf:roll:

Thanks for telling me, even though I already got some from that CAG;)

I paid him .50c per case, which isnt a lot more than what these were. I also needed other stuff from him, so it wasnt a total bust.

If you are going to a lot of yard sales, you should look for the "free boxes" people set out with junk they're giving away. I've found a lot of cd cases that were missing the cds thrown in these boxes.

I'm checking this out; I thought about getting some off Amazon but that isn't bad for a small quantity.

The problem with the Amazon ones you posted is they've got the black trays instead of clear ones (which is what PS1/DC cases call for). You can always keep the clear tray from the existing cases, but I find that about 1/10 of the games I buy have some type of serious cosmetic flaw on the tray. It's always good to be able to swap out the entire case with a new one.

After tax you wind up paying ~$0.32 per case at Kmart. It's really worth it to have all your games looking mint.

I do have to say, though, $26 for 100 cases is not bad at all. I just wish those were clear. The only places to get clear cases in that quantity charge you an arm and a leg for shipping.
