Alright, I overheard my mom mention that she wants an LCD monitor(impossible to get gift ideas out of her), so I'm wanting to get her one for Christmas.

I'm looking for any deals on LCD monitors, and suggestions for good ones to get. Probably looking for a 17-19" one. Also looking in the price range of around $200.

I'd prefer B&M deals as it might be a little trickier to sneak an online order past her, but I'll take ethier.

Alright, I just learned that I could drop to a 15 inch monitor(that's what she was looking at).

And the monitor doesn't really need to be super high quality or anything. I think she mostly wants one for the extra space.

And as I said, just general tips for looking would be good too. I've never bought or even really looked at LCD monitors before, heh.

And I could probably go up to about $250 on one if I needed to.

A 19 inch lcd for 200 is VERY hard to come by. Yet a good lcd screen being 200 is almost impossible. That link I sent you is for a truely great lcd. Price is 200 after rebates... but still. Happy holidays![/QUOTE]

Sorry to threadjack, but is 12ms appropiate for a gaming monitor? I thought 8ms and below was pretty much standard for that. I was looking for a 17 inch LCD and ~$200-$230 is my budget but for a Samsung 19 inch...

I've been looking at this monitor also, and it's never been in stock. I see it's in stock now, but I just found out that the rebates have expired.

Does anyone have a similar deal on an LCD monitor? I know this one was pretty good, but maybe lightning strikes twice?

Time to bump this and see if there are any new deals out there.

I'm looking for something along the same lines as the OP. A 17" LCD monitor with response rate of 8ms - 12 ms (to avoid ghosting in games) for about $200. Anybody know of any good deals? The link BasketCase1080 provided no longer has the $100 off MIR :( .

Newegg has a Rosewell 19" 8ms LCD for $229.99 after rebate. That's the best I can find right now. I've heard 19" LCD's with 8ms response times aren't as good as 17" LCD's with 8ms response. Anyone more knowledgeable about monitors here can help? I'm gonna keep looking around either way.

EDIT: What does 500:1 or 600:1 mean? Is higher or lower better?

Is Rosewell a good brand? Should I go for the 17" Samsung instead for $10 cheaper?

higher ratio is better, i.e. 800:1 better than 600:1.
If you can spare about 379-400, id look at the Dell 20 inch widescreen lcds, they occasionally drop to that price, normal price is like $600.

The Dell 2405fpw seems the standard 'good monitor' answer on all the forums I checked. It is a bit over my price range though, even at $379-$400. I'll keep looking and post what I find.

Abalistar, if you're still checking this thread, I see many 17"-19" monitors in your price range or a little above on newegg. I don't know if you'll have any better luck with B&M stores.

Well the 2405fpw is the 24 inch one, and thats more like 600-700 with a good deal. The 2005fpw is the one i have and got for about 400

Damn numbers! I always mix them up. Either one is a bit high for me but they look pretty sweet.

Well, I decided to get the Samsung 740N-Black 17" from newegg for $230. Anyone have one of these monitors can tell me if they are good or not? I'm guessing Samsung makes good monitors but I'm not really sure.

Right now newegg is having various sales lasting until 1/3/06. I'm gonna wait until the fourth and hope they have some new deals that would actually help me. They've had free shipping coupons and such before so you never know.

Ah, thanks for the replies folks. I'm most likely going to be just buying one from the guy who built my mom's computer. He's got a 15 inch one that's $185, and it's the one my mom was originally going to buy anyways.

Just sucks that I couldn't find one before Christmas and surprise her. >_

Albalistar, you can get this Hyvision MV178 Black 17" 8ms LCD Monitor for about $20 more including shipping. It seems like a nice monitor judging from the reviews over at newegg. I decided against it because it doesn't have a DVI port but I don't think your mom would care about that.

If you happen to check this thread before the day is over (1 more hour) newegg has a one day sale for a incredible $3 off! OMFG!

I just happened to check this thread as I was buying the Samsung I mentioned in my previous post. I hope I'm not coming off as a newegg fanboy. This will be my first purchase from them but I'm heard some good things so I'm not to worried.
