I figure that with Resident Evil 4 now having been released for as long as it has been that I might as well create an Umbrella Chronicles thread and start loading it up with media. For some reason the graphics look like they've been overhauled since the last time I saw them.

I hope the wii gets a real light gun. this genre has been left in the crapper the past few years, and has certainly led to my declined interest in gaming overall.

I plan on getting it, but probably not at release. If the light-gun calibration things happens and works out well that will be cool, but otherwise I'm fine with the way it is.
They're putting this out the same week as Super Mario Galaxy?!?
That sucks .. well, I guess it doesn't since two good games and all, but still stinks. Ah well, thanks for the heads up .. this game looks good and I'm not a RE fan personally, but I'm definitely interested in it.

I think the best thing about this game is going to be the Co-op multi-player modes. Get a friend together and it'll be a blast. I wonder if they can come in at any time...

I was going to post some videos as well but they look notably dated compared to the zombie models they've got going in this current build of pictures.
Does Capcom want this game to sell poorly?
Why do you say that? I mean the game is a great way of saying, hey if you don't like plumbers, we've got zombies for you to shoot in the fucking face as well.

I mean people were bitching, myself included, for the past 10 months about the lack of games for the Nintendo Wii. Now that games are finally hitting, people are aghast that any other game would come out at the same time as a Nintendo game. I mean it's from a third party, the graphics don't look (anymore) like something out of a PS2 port, so I'm confused as to why people aren't willing to support it.

As much as I LOVE RE4, I'm going to probably pass on this unless the reviews are really really good. There's too many other games I want this fall. If this hits $20 next summer I'd take a look though...

Releasing a game on the same week as one of the Wii's flagship titles will definitely hurt its sales. Capcom is shooting themselves in the foot. No questions about it.

I was getting ready to say the same thing: $20 and I'm sold. I just got through my 7th playthrough of RE4 (2 on Cube, 2 on PS2 and 3 on Wii), so I'm obviously looking foward to 5... but this game, not so much. I wouldn't hesitate at $20 though.

1. That release date is for Japan
2. The Wiimote has already proven that it can do 1:1 and act as a light gun
3. The chances of this game costing $20 are slim.

And just to throw this out because I know someone is going to reference one of the many negative E3 impressions - check out the Comic Con 07 (youtube), video of the game. It pretty much fixes all of the "issues" at E3.

if its 30 bucks its a def buy, i aint made of money with so much coming out on the 360 and Wii around then it will be tough to justify the purchase

Link?

I just don't believe it unless RE:UC has a great in game calibration system. The real problem in not getting 1:1 pointing is the floating box mechanics of the sensor bar. In theory, Nintendo could change it with a firmware update and give you a lot more options but right now to get even close to 1:1 you have to play with your sensor bar positioning quite a bit. I've done so on 4 different TVs and 1:1 just isn't there. Largeer TVs especially.

Probably more like nill. Still maybe the sales of RE4 at $30 might change their minds and provide a lower price point. I'm not fooling myself, I would have paid $50 for RE4, but maybe there were a lot more sales considering the lower cost of entry.

There are like a million videos of people playing Ghost Squad and UC at E3. I can't tell you how tired I am of linking to videos and informing people on such basic info.

Any word of online co-op for this yet? Ghost Squad is apparently popping up on WFCStatus now, but I don't recall any announcement of online co-op for that, so it might be some less exciting Wi-Fi functionality.

Analysts jump to conclusions and blame this on the M-rating, rather than poor timing from Capcom.

I got the date from EB Games. According to them these games are all dropping on those dates:

Crusi'n
Mario Galaxy
Dancing With The Stars
Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3
Godzilla Unleashed
NIGHTS: Journey of Dreams
Nitrobike
Pet Catz
Pet Dogz
Pet Horsez
Rayman Raving Rabbits 2
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles
Smarty Pants
Soul Calibur Legends
Trauma Center: New Blood

15 games are landing on the Wii on the 12th and 13th of November. I'm not sure if anyone else noticed that. This is according to the EB site.

That game looks fucking NICE!!

I love RE so I may have some bias, but I may be getting a Wii this year between that and Smash Bros.

Hell, I'm even interested in MP3 from what I've seen. Looks much better than the other two.

That's all I want.

I'll be picking this one up for sure. This was fantastic to play at Comic-Con and the line to get in to play it took forever, but it was worth it.

No, it is not basic info. I've seen plenty of videos of both those games. That is by no means any confirmation of 1:1 pointing. Just because it looks like it, doesn't mean it is at all. You are assuming based off watching people play.

A link to an article of developers talking about details of a calibration setup would be confirmation. If I have missed anything along those lines, please let me know. It would bring my hopes up for both titles and future ones for better pointing calibration. You just can't claim it without solid information behind it.

Based on how the Wii's IR sensor works, 1:1 pointing is not there without some sort of user calibration. Even then it will not truly be 1:1. The PS3's upcoming Guncon works the same way as the Wiimote, however uses two sensors to be put on each side of a TV screen. That will be more accurate because having two sensors better defines center of the screen and eliminates the floating box pointing mechanic the Wii uses.

I'm going to guess very few publishers will be stupid enough to release a Wii game on the same day as Galaxy. After all, it's been 5 years since the last 3D Mario platformer, and Galaxy is being hyped as the true successor to Mario 64.

Anyway, the only games on that list I plan on buying at full price are Galaxy and Godzilla, and I may buy Rayman and Resident Evil when they get cheap enough ($20-30)

1. Yes there is calibration (again this is basic info)
2. If the videos of the the on-screen pointer pointing exactly where the players aim isn't enough to convince you then there is nothing more for me to say.

Those four alone I'm interested in. Not ready to sink $50 into NIGHTS or RE, as Galaxy will be getting my money, and Trauma Center will be something I get because I did love the one on the DS. Never did play it on the Wii though, I assume good things.

Yeah, Capcom didn't position the timing well as Mario will garnish all the sales thatweek, possibly month. A nice low price point like $30 would help though. Hell, $40 could win some votes or if it comes with a gun-shell. People will see that and immediately be interested.

I assume those dates are only a placeholder.

I can't wait for this, but it's definitely going to have to wait if it indeed does come out on the same day as Mario Galaxy.

Really? If they have co-op then this is likely a must buy for me, sounds sweet. And the only games I'm honestly interested in buying would be Galaxy and UC on that list, perhaps Trauma Center. I'm hoping this comes out two weeks after Galaxy atleast though.

Don't be a douchebag. I already know they might be placeholders and that's why I specified two times that I got the dates from EB.

At the same time, considering the amount of games in development, along with the added attention the Wii would get through the release of Galaxy, I wouldn't be surprised if some publishers are attempting to piggyback Galaxy. That is the sweet spot to set a game out into release so that as many parents and friends can pick up games for the upcoming holiday season. It's not like a publisher is going to release a game a week before Christmas to avoid any competition because by that point all the Christmas gifts have already been bought.

This isn't the movie industry where people usually watch one movie at a time. People do pick up more than one game at a time when they're at the store. I bet you've even done it yourself.

There's no need for personal insults, and I wasn't the only one to point out that EB's dates are mostly placeholders.

Sure I've bought two or more games at the same time. But I've never bought 2 $50+ games at the same time (with the exception of when I've bought a new console of course). Only the most hardcore gamers will buy multiple full price games on the same day. Most people will come in to the store, see Mario and some other new games, and buy Mario. Mario will hurt sales of any other Wii game that comes out the same day.

I'm sorry. It's just insulting when you come across as if others may be too stupid to know that a number of those dates could possibly be placeholders and you have to step up and clear it up for them. Don't insult my intelligence.
I haven't been keeping up, but why does this game have a reticule?
So you can see where you're shooting. It's been there for a while.
So you can see where you're shooting. It's been there for a while.
Damn, that sucks. I thought they had found a way around that limitation.
Oh well.

I'll pick it up still, with a coupon of some sort.
Feels a bit cheap with it too.

The limitation of being able to see where you're shooting? :p

I know there was talk of being able to use the remote as a lightgun, but I dunno if it could be done for this game unless they've been working on it behind the scenes for quite a while.

Plus, aren't there problems with lightguns and newer TVs (LCD, Plasma, etc.)?

I just remember hearing about how it was going to be 1:1.
If that were the case, you wouldn't need the reticule.

I'm sure you can calibrate it to get real close, but you still have that reticule.
I put the sensor bar on the ground and shoot towards the floor now at least. :p

I'm sorry about insulting your intellegence, but some people don't know that those are placeholder dates. A common response to people posting placeholder dates is saying that they are placeholder dates.

The game is starting to look better. Only thing I got to wonder though is how long will it be. I imagine as a lightgun-style game it would be pretty short. If its not, the gameplay might wear thin after a while then.

That's something I worry about too. Pretty much every light gun game I've played has been pretty short, so I'm not planning on buying this until it hits $20-30 (and I'll admit I'm still a little mad this game isn't a RE4 style game, especially since it started out that way).

This looks so much better than the last screenshots I saw for it. Really I am very impressed and pleased to see more of the Resident Evil 3 scenario. With some luck Nemesis will make an appearance in some shape or form.

The game is roughly 20-30 hours in length as said by Capcom.
The game is roughly 20-30 hours in length as said by Capcom.
DO NOT BELIEVE!

But will cross fingers.

Kawata is promising that the title will run between 15 and 20 hours long and while many of the environments will look familiar -- you'll play through portions of Resident Evil 0, 1, 2 and 3 -- this will be the first time most of them have been realized in true 3D.

I actually did a search on it and I was wrong. It's supposed to be between 15 and 20 hours. Not 20 and 30. Sorry!
Sounds more realistic, at least for a first time play through.

It'll be nice to see some familiar places.
Regarding the reticule... From IGN -

Umbrella Chronicles isn't merely mindless shooting -- there is that, yes, but there is also much more to consider. The Wii remote affords you pixel-perfect shooting accuracy. You can cap zombie heads without a second's hesitation or you can alternatively shoot them in the arms and legs, at which point they'll drop to the ground. Your reticule decreases in size the longer your hold it over a zombie's face and the smaller it is, the greater chance you have of pulling off a single-shot head explosion, from what we could gather. A button picks up items and chooses paths (occasionally, you can select to go in one direction or another), and B button is your trigger. Press it and you'll shoot -- that simple. But you can use nunchuk's analog stick to look around the game world -- left, right, up and down -- as you glide on-rails through the areas. You'll want to do this because it's how you find the hidden items such as guns, ammo and health that are strewn about the levels

I have a feeling this may play out like a first person mercenaries.
Regarding the reticule... From IGN -

I have a feeling this may play out like a first person mercenaries.
Thanks for that, I feel MUCH MUCH better about this game now.

Will get!

this game looks nice! RE4 for wii was awesome... so i'm expecting big things for this game too

it sucks that i only have enough money for 6 of the 9 games (now 10) that i want.

unless i win the lottery (or find the money somewhere, lol) i might have to look to a few rentals instead of buys to get into all the adventures
