Retro Baby! RetroDuo v2.0 NES & SNES 2in1

That's cool, I might actually get one! My SNES is gathering dust, broken in my closet. What's the normal price, how good is the deal?

I love my black one, but that red and yellow one is just...I don't know...fugly. Great if you're a USC fan though...

This is by the same company that makes the Gen-X (genesis and NES in one). It seems to have higher compatibility than most famiclones.

Personally, I need a turboduo/master system/genesis/nes/snes/n64 in one before I buy :p

I have a RetroDuo 2 (Red and Black), and I love it. Thus far, I haven't run into a game that doesn't work, and I got the RetroDuo because it is one of the few famiclones that can play Castlevania 3 for the NES and Star Fox for the SNES.

Only problem is that it only accepts SNES controllers, which means no light gun action. Still, that's a pretty small price to pay.

Plus, it runs Super Game Boy perfectly, so it's almost a 3-in-1 device. Love playing some Mega Man V and Link's Awakening.

get the original systems...i got my nes on ebay with the new 42 count pin set for 30 and it came with metroid and metal gear plus free shipping...love it

My boyfriend has one and it works great! Sometimes it takes a few tries on the NES games to get them going, but certainly less time than the front-loader. Definitely worth buying, if not just for SNES capabilities since used ones seem to run for about the same price.

... you mean 72 pin

You can't hate those colors the only thing that system is missing is a big sticker across the front that reads Hulkamaniac. Brother.

I got one before, but it caught on fire. Luckily nothing was damaged except a copy of Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball. They offered to replace the system but I just wanted my money back at that point.

The problem with this thing is that your stuck, too, with old-school lack of game saves. I'd much rather play my SNES and NES games on the Wii VC. Yes, you have limited choices of games, but I don't know, I just can't enjoy old games any more when I have to start over again when the power is cut, so it's a moot point. And even games that do have games saves only let you save at certain points. The VC saves your state at any point, allowing for short or long sessions of play.
The colors are a shout-out to the OG Famicom...for those missing the point.
I thought the original Famicom was white and red.

Dang - as soon as I saw "RetroDuo" I thought TURBO Duo and was ready to buy, because you can never have too many of those. Oh well.

*edit* hey Salty - nice avatar. :)
I thought the original Famicom was white and red.
It was. An homage doesn't have to be exact, though. It made me think Famicom, too, but those aren't Famicom colors. Really, any console that has a reddish tone and isn't gray, black, or white would probably make me think Famicom.

I had no idea it did that. That's pretty cool.

In for one. If I can find my box of old carts, I'll be in business. Also I've been passing up on a lot of NES and SNES carts at local used games shops just because I don't have anything to play it on.

He's talking about the Wii VC not this. This thing supposedly doesn't save once you've turned it off. May want to read into that.

I don't see how this is an homage to the Famicom just because it has red. It looks like Ronald McDonald took a crap all over it.

Myself, I don't consider this worth much at all. For me it's the real deal or you might as well just emulate, and have more features. I mean I understand the appeal of combining the two systems but I'd rather have both original systems than this if I were going to go with a more tangible system. But then I do have an NES and SNES and never play them. As for the colors, ughh. The black one is pretty nice looking but this just looks terrible. If it were the ACTUAL Famicom colors it would be a different story. Those colors would look good. I guess one could mod this :p

Is there any difference in the 2.0 and the average ones on eBay? I've been meaning to get one. My SNES has red bars going down the screen and I don't have a clue where my NES is.

LOL!!! Thats pretty true, its close to Central Michigan's colors though. but not excatly. *lives in Michigan*

Thats a really cool thing though, even though i have 2 working Nintendo's *one is as old as 1989! 20 years old!* and the other idk about, and i got 2 Super Nintendo's *one that works and one that needs its power plug fixed* i think ill pass. Besides i rather emulate on my PC, i know.. its not the "same" to most people. But to me it is.

Except if you have friends to play with, then thats understandable.

Or if there on the 360 and you like getting achievement points like me. then thats an exception of buying too. :p

>.

The black/red one I got for my mom had crappy plastic, and felt cheap. The AV out also had a short. I returned it for the white/blue. It had no problems, and felt to be constructed with better materials. The controller sucks balls, though. Get an official SNES controller.

Comes out to $41 shipped at stootsi. Amazon has it in better colors for $45 shipped. Doesn't say 2.0 but looks the same.

Mine was kind of a piece of crap - the svideo cord was jacked and only displayed black and white. The audio was off on half the games i played. Kinda sucked for me.

Probably not for you gaming purists out there, but I found it to be cool:

Videogamecentral.com (the site that has the unboxing video on stootsi) is selling original style nes and snes controllers that have been wired to have USB connectors for use with a PC or Mac computer. $25 for the NES, $20 for the SNES + shipping.

Sorry I should've made that more clear. I knew he was talking about Virtual Console. Thanks for catching it tho. It would really suck if I was banking on that feature for the RetroDuo.

That's actually not too bad, if the controller feels like the real deal. I bought a Super Smart Joy a couple years ago and it was $25 or so. It's nice to use an original SNES controller and still be able to use it with an SNES.

That site has Super Smart Joys but they are $30 and OOS.

edit: And now I think I know why; I think Lik-Sang made the Smart Joy and they were shut down by Sony. I totally forgot about that site, it was awesome.

Here's another vendor with more colors. I found them over the weekend on Amazon. According to his site, the Retro Duo uses the actual Nintendo hardware and is more compatible. Some of the Amazon reviews indicated the "S" video was inconsistent.

What is the state of the used NES/SNES market price wise? Can u get decent games for cheap, or are all the 1st party games outrageously expensive?

Both my SNES and NES are hooked up right now. They both work and i just bought an original famicom.

the controllers are gold and red but the system is red and white.

Definitley worth a purchase for a cheap replacement.
