I work for iFixit (just being honest and up front here)

We'll be doing retro game console teardowns this whole week! Sort of a walk through history on some of the older gen consoles. I thought it would be appropriate to let those of you interested in old gaming hardware know! XD

I'll update this as the week goes on.

Monday: Magnavox Odyssey 100, released in August 1975

Tuesday: RCA Studio 2, released in January 1977

Wednesday: Atari 2600, released in October 1977

That was our big week of retro console teardowns! Let me know any thoughts you might have or feedback, cool fun ride through some of the older gaming systems.

EDIT: Don't need to be copying links anymore.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for posting. I can't say I expected to see a Famicom.
Very cool stuff. I would like to see some other consoles torn down and examined. Some Sega systems would be cool to see.
If you know anyone who has those systems, you could also encourage them to take one apart and post the info up on the site. That is actually where a lot of our console repair guides come from.

Well, crap. I just had my Jaguar completely disassembled in order to clean it. If I knew, I would have taken pics.

I do like the high quality of ifixit photos as well as the detailed instructions. Any chance you guys would be doing this for the Bandai WonderSwan / SwanCrystal series?

Dang, that would have been awesome.

If our guide guys had them on hand, they probably would in their spare time. It would be really cool if we could have people from all over who had old consoles if they did teardowns on them.
