While this might be speculation upon speculation, Joystiq is running a rumor that the Arcade SKU will come complete with a motion controller for $199 on September 7th. Tucked in the rumor, however, is that the new SKUs will have the Fall Dashboard Update pre-loaded on the system.

The rumor reads: “[The $199 SKU will feature] the traditional Arcade goodies (512MB memory card, etc.), the new Fall update pre-loaded as well as a motion controller and a few motion controlled mini games developed by Rare.”

Aside from the motion-controller headline, the announcement of the Fall Dashboard Update (Xbox Experience) being pre-loaded on the system should raise some eyebrows. If this rumor is true–that would mean that the new Xbox Experience would be hitting Xbox 360 consoles in the very near future; probably before September 7th rolls around.

Again, while this is speculation upon speculation, it is definitely something to look out for in the coming weeks.

That would be awesome. I can't wait for the netflix watch now functionality. I have several in my queue waiting for this rather than watching them on my PC or laptop.

The dashboard update that soon would be nice. However, I don't think that motion control stuff is gonna be profitable for them. There's way too many people that don't want that type of stuff. And those that do probably already have a Wii, or would rather spend less money and get a Wii.
And those that do probably already have a Wii, or would rather spend less money and get a Wii.
The 360 will be $50 cheaper than the Wii once this price cut goes into effect. If they include a motion controller, people/families won't feel the need to pick up a Wii and they will move to the 360 instead. Plus, many already have 360's, so they could sell the motion contoller and make a shitload of money off that alone.

Do you hate playing games with Jim that much?

I guess I missed something, since this was the first I heard of a motion controller packed in with the new Arcade units. Huh.

Anyway, this would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath. I agree that if it was coming that soon they would've announced it.

I don't think a surprise attack would work well on the blue ocean...actually this rumor about the motion controller is completely retarded.

Maybe, but if they are just going to spring this on the consumer that quickly, I don't think it can match the already strong Wii recognition.

Plus, I would bet families would still gravitate to the Wii, because of the known ease of use/software available. Even at a lower price, I don't think it's a win for the 360, unless they put out some Wii Sports-ish titles quickly and effectively.

That endsights website got it wrong the joystick article says the 199.99 arcade bundle they release for the holidays will have the dahboard update, motion controller a 512 meg memory card and mini games

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/08/22/rumor-199-xbox-360-arcade-with-motion-controller/

the arcade bundles that will be 199.99 on sept 7 are the same ones that are out now

I hope it comes before then. I dropped $260 on a nice 16:10 monitor only to find out the shitty 360 doesn't do pixel mapping, or if it does it's not telling the monitor it can.

People have been paying 300+ for Wiis on Ebay. a cheaper price wont drive consumer interest. The wii isnt winning because its cheap. Its "The hot item" to get.

and controlers that arent standard NEVER work.

Not to mention you can actually find 360's on the shelf. Couple that with a bowling game XBLA game coming soon and you may have something.

HAHHAHAHAHAHA the Wii cheaper. I've spent more on perhpials to get the full functionality out of my Wii than I spent on the 360 and the inital 3 games I bought for it(mind you most were used). The 360 only got expensive when my first one died and I replaced it with a elite :(.

XBLA could provide plenty of motion sensing games that people would enjoy.

The big news would be the HD install. We all know It's coming, but hopefully sooner then later.

Why? Faster load times, and most importantly *drum roll* less heat output AND no noise (outside of the fans). When the 360 no longer is constantly accessing the DVD drive it will no longer sound like a helicopter, not to mention less DVD access = less heat output, so lesser chances of RROD.

The problem with that is that the majority of 360 owners only have the 20gb HDD, meaning it'll fall into Wii territory, except with a cost solution. But how many people are willing to upgrade their hard drive?

i gotta call bullshit here. i've been wanting to sell my wii for a couple weeks but i've been holding off. why? because i saw a brand new wii sell on ebay for $180 and i saw a used bundle with rock band, guitar hero, and other games sell for under $350. ebay has been flooded with wii's since e3. shit i saw somebody sell one on craigslist for $150. I've been trying to decide weather i should sell it for the horrible prices now or wait longer for the "hot item" to sell for even less.

It better not come out before my 360 returns from repairs! I want to bitch and moan about the Fall Dashboard Update with the rest of you. :whistle2:(

There is a strong rumor (or was it an announcement?) that there will be a Live pack that includes a 60GB HDD, headset, and 3 months of live for MSRP $99. That isn't too bad.

As for the OP, when I read the rumor, it seemed clear to me that they implied the $199 bundle with a motion controller will be coming for the holidays. There was nothing to imply they were launching on Sept 7th.

I will be very surprised if this rumor is true.

My 20GB is close to being full. If I downloaded the Force Unleashed demo I don't think I'd have a big enough swapfile for playing games.

Still waiting for the fucktards at Microsoft to drop the price of the 120GB. Right now the asking price is beyond obscene.

if gamestop ever has a coupon like the one they had a month ago 20% off used accesories that would be the way to get a 120. thats how i got mine. with edge and coupon it was $90.xx. then i sold my 20gb for $40. nice upgrade for $50.

Actually 199 360 + Netflix = Nothing. You'll need the 299 model if you want to be able to download movies of course.

Oh come on, how many times do I have to say this? Sell your memory unit and buy a used HD on eBay for $40 shipped (or less). That's not $300, more like $220 or so.

BTW did anyone read on burning games to the HD? I thought that was supposed to be in the fall update?

Yes, installing games is supposed to be in the fall update. I'm really looking forward to that since it should make it run a little quieter.

A little? My xbox 360 sounds like a jet when playing a game!
A little? My xbox 360 sounds like a jet when playing a game!
lol, your right about that. Hopefully it will sound like a stealth jet after the update instead of the jumbo jet it sounds like now. I'm also hoping installing games will reduce the chances of it overheating and getting the red ring.

I was under the impression this was for streaming from your "watch instantly" queue. Sorta to serve the same purpose of the roku netflix device. It doesn't seem you would need a hard drive for this - but maybe Microsoft could/would somehow require it. I know the roku device doesn't have a hard drive and it streams fine.

Is the new netflix thing with xbox for downloading movies?
It's just streaming video. You can currently watch them on your PC/laptop or buy a Roku box from Netflix to watch on your TV. There's no charge for them on top of your monthly fee. So yes, it's basically just turning the 360 into a Roku box.

The selection is more limited, but they still have like 12,000 options or something. Not new releases but movies a few years old, a ton of classics, a ton of documentaries, a lot of TV shows etc.

I can't wait as I like the service but hate watching on my PC/laptop.
i hope we dont have to install games on the hard drive. im going to run out of space fast.
No, you don't have to install if you don't want to. It's an optional feature that will be available with the fall update.

Personally, I'm hoping the Install Games feature will also work with original Xbox games.
Personally, I'm hoping the Install Games feature will also work with original Xbox games.
I suppose it's possible they could get the Install Games working with original Xbox titles, but I doubt Microsoft will bother.

hah. i live in ohio man. the 150 wii i saw was mos def from a crack house. even so, the new ones selling for 180 is crazy. i just made a deal with a friend and sold my wii + games + controllers for $390 so im pretty happy with that. time to go on vacation and get rock band 2 when i come back.

Absolutely. I put off playing Oblivion when I heard about this feature. The droning disc noise would just ruin that game I think.

Man, what's with all the Wii haters in here? Thanks to that Gamestop coupon last week I am well stocked on Wii games and it is actually my system of choice now (taking over from the 360 which dominated my time since I got it a year and a half ago). I've got a lot of catching up to do.

But I probably will put a lot of time into Tale of Vesperia here shortly (though that's another one that could benefit from disc install :whistle2:k). Well, Viva Pinata 2 will get oodles of play time regardless!

As for motion controls on the 360 - yeah, ain't gonna work, no matter how hard they push it. I mean, it might be moderately successful - perhaps on the level of the Eye Toy for PS2. But it won't take anything away from the Wii for any number of reasons. Now incorporating it into the next console may have some effect. But then I expect the Wii 2 to go HD so that takes away the main advantage of the 360 ;).

I don't think anyone would argue that the 360 is going to measurably hurt the Wii with motion controls.

But MS is banking on the fact that Wii's will be hard to find again this xmas season. That, combined with getting salesman educated, could really boost their sales. In essence, they are just using the Wii to sell 360's. All they have to do is get across to the masses the following:

Want a Wii for Christmas?
360 is-
$50 cheaper than Wii
More powerful
Online
Bigger library of games
Similar motion controls and comes with mini-games
How can you lose?

That tactic should/will work with a lot of potential Wii buyers this Christmas.
The Wii is the new Tard Pack.
Funny thing is the new tard pack is the premium and elite. Consider buying the arcade then the HD packs that will be available in November at a $100-$150 pricepoint (60gig-120gig with extras) it essentially makes buying the arcade then the HD a better option.

This is fucked up yet funny at the same time.

So with this in mind you have.

$200 Arcade with HDMI + $150 120 gig = $350 and you have the extras of the HD bundle
$300 premium with the 60 gig and you will have no extras.
$400 Elite with 120 gig HD and you will have no extras.
(Of course all units now have HDMI)

While you could argue the Black finish is well worth the extra $50 in the end the arcade seems to pull through as the best value if you could wait till november :)

Even with the $200 Arcade + $150 120gb HD, you still don't have the Component or HDMI cables that Microsoft blatantly overcharges for.

Also, the bundle is slated for the 60gb HD, and we don't know when these changes will affect 120gb HD's.
