Sacha Baron-Cohen does it again: Bruno

This looks hilarious. I need to see it before everyone ruins the jokes this time. I've never seen Borat, but I've hung out with a few douchebags who have seen it, so I've pretty much seen it.

That trash TV segment looks like comedy gold.

"I gave him, like, a traditional African name. OJ."

Man, I love his characters. Looking forward to this one.

Wasn't there also a book by Borat out a while back?

I plan on seeing this. Borat I saw on HBO I think well after it came out. Everyone I know seen it in theaters or when it came out on DVD. So I was late in seeing it and everyone was making the jokes.
Will he do naked wrestling with a fat guy in this one?
Cripes, I hope not. That was too much.

I didn't think Borat was as funny as some people made it out to be (I still liked it though), but this movie looks like it could be pretty hilarious. That is as long as people don't ruin all the humor by the time I see it like they did with Borat.
Borat was fucking terrible, but that one actually looked slightly funny.
This. I'm a big fan of the show, but Borat was just bad. Bruno looks like it could be funny, we'll see :)

Wow. I don't know what movie some of you guys were watching but Borat was amazing. I've seen it probably 15 times. Watching his HBO version of Borat vs the movie version , you can tell he was much better in the movie.

And I agree with the person on the extras. One of the few dvd's that had great extras.

I thought Borat kinda sucked. Started off great, but the last 1/3 of the movie lost focus and it was more awkward than funny.

This movie was supposed to come out quite a while ago. Right when Borat was released this movie started production. Took forever to get finished.

Let the lawsuits begin-

LOS ANGELES - The lawyer for a woman suing actor-comedian Sacha Baron Cohen over a scuffle at a charity bingo tournament said Friday that his client suffered "life-altering injuries."

Attorney Kyle Madison released a statement asking for privacy for Richelle Olson, who sued Baron Cohen on May 22 in Lancaster, California. Olson, 39, claims Baron Cohen and a camera crew filming the movie "Bruno" ambushed her on the stage of a bingo tournament that she organized to raise money for nursing students.

"The actions of Mr. Cohen and those acting in concert with him have resulted in life-altering injuries to my client," Madison's statement said. "My focus is her well-being and to secure a fair, just and equitable remedy for her claims. This claim is distinguishable from Mr. Cohen's previous lawsuits as a defendant."

The lawsuit states that Olson suffered brain injuries after a fall that happened as a result of actions by Baron Cohen and film workers, and that she now has to use either a walker or a wheelchair.

NBC Universal called the suit's allegations "completely baseless."

"Filmed footage of the full encounter, which took place more than two years ago, clearly shows that Ms. Olson was never touched or in any way assaulted by Sacha Baron Cohen or any member of the production and suffered no injury," said the statement released Friday by NBC Universal publicist Jen Chamberlain. "If the Olsons elect to proceed with their frivolous action, we expect each of the defendants to be fully vindicated."

Baron Cohen's 2006 film, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan," was a surprise hit. The British comedian is known for crafting outlandish characters and often dupes people into interviews or settings where he films their reactions to his antics.

In his upcoming film, "Bruno," Baron Cohen plays a flamboyantly gay fashionista.

Several people featured in "Borat" sued Baron Cohen, claiming that his movie caused them humiliation. Olson's claim is the first to allege a serious physical injury.

Olson's suit states that she was contacted about having a celebrity call the numbers at the charity event in the desert city of Palmdale in May 2007 for a documentary on bingo. Baron Cohen, 37, showed up as Bruno and began using vulgarity in front of the audience, which was comprised mostly of senior citizens, the complaint states.

Olson's suit claims she got into a struggle with the comedian over a microphone, and that he called over his camera crew to accost her and try to provoke a reaction. The suit states Olson went offstage and a co-worker found her sobbing uncontrollably. When Olson tried to stand up, she fell, hitting her head on a concrete slab and suffering brain bleeds, according to an account in the lawsuit.

is this being serious?

That's true. A lot of it is shock humor, so if you hear about it and are prepared for it... it's just a lot less shocking.

I can only imagine the lines that you'll constantly hear over and over again like Borat's "Very nice!" that will make you cringe and hate Sasha Cohen.

Saw Bruno this afternoon. It was funny and had several lol moments but it wasn't near as good as Borat. No way he could have lived up to that as it was classic. Still was worth the afternoon matinee admission though Sacha is a great actor. :D

Saw this in April, it is pretty funny. I thought it was OK right after seeing it. But, just wait a while, you'll want to see it again. He is just such an odd, interesting character. It's just so friggen gay that you need a day or so to process it.

To bad they took the Janet Jackson scene out. Thought that was pretty funny.

Just got back from it. I think Borat was better, but Bruno is still pretty damn good. He pushes the envelope so fucking far it's ridiculous. The whole Middle East part is sooooo uncomfortable.

I'm a big fan of the TV show, so the Borat movie wasn't all that funny to me. Bruno was leagues better, and also the most disgusting movie I've ever seen.

Saw it yesterday afternoon and thought it was really funny. I didn't think I would like it as much as Borat, but it was great.

Seeing this Sunday night.

I've only seen bits and pieces of Borat from when it was butchered on TBS. Other than that, the only familiarity I have with Cohen is from Sweeny Todd, which was out of character for him and really no role to judge his comedy by. So I guess this will be my first Cohen experience...

I thought Borat was fine, nothing great. What was great was the losers reactions to the movie. It's just a movie!

I'll most likely watch this one at some point, but I'm not in any rush to see it.

id like to change my opinion on this one. it looks fucking stupid and i dont want to see it. i doubt that "terrorist" he went to see was a real one or else hed be dead.

Just saw the movie. Here are a couple of thoughts
* Borat was better overall. This film was more shocking although there were some good laughs.
* Some of the most shocking parts were not from Bruno but from the words that the other people spoke
Like in the scenes at the child talent agency. Thats just messed up.
* I am a straight guy. For some reason, the movie made me more straighter (if such of thing was possible). I don't want to see male genitallia anymore.
* I'm shocked that Sacha Baron Cohen did not get shot.

some random ninjas in the audience kept talking crap to the screen and acting all homophobic. pretty lame but i thought the movie was good

It was a good movie but it wasn't as good as Borat.....

As with what others have said. The child talent agency part was just sad. Funny but sad.

And Bruno's schlong....well

The thing I loved about Borat was that the more you watched it the more you understood that he wasn't just making a funny movie. He was making a social commentary about how ass backwards people are. Everything about the Borat character was hilarious too.

Bruno was better in the way he made people look like complete idiots and mean mother f*ckers: Gay converters, the child agency parents etc... but idk. There was just something about Borat that I liked more. There were plenty of funny moments in Bruno though don't get me wrong. Like when he joins the military.

Yea, I mentioned that at the pre-screening that, "The movie does not help the acceptance of the gay community, if that is a hidden agenda of the film" (the lady got kind of weird and went onto the next question). It seems to be almost anti gay. It takes the stereotype of gay people to the extreme and makes that lifestyle look weird and not normal. I've also heard that a majority of the Bruno crew were "Yes on 8". So, even though it is disguised as a commentary on the gay community - it could very well be towards the negative. Or, it could just be a funny ass concept and they didn't think of any of that (highly doubtful though).
