Saints Row 2 brings true freedom to open-world gaming. Play as who you want, how you want, and with whomever you want in this sequel to the much-acclaimed and tremendously successful Saints Row.
Set years after the original, Stilwater is both familiar and strange. Bring the Saints back as the rightful kings of Stilwater and bringing vengeance to those who wronged you.

 • Limitless customization: Play as fully customizable characters that are male, female or something in between. Vehicles can be visually customized as well as performance tuned. Cribs and even gangs all have an amazing degree of detailed customization options.
 • Multiplayer: The co-op full story campaign has seamless integration (for example one player drives while the other shoots). Competitive MP pushes the boundaries of immersion in a living Stillwater environment fully populated with police, innocent bystanders, and rival gangs.
 • Killer combat, awesome vehicles: Planes, helicopters, motorcycles, boats, and cars can be piloted and used as weapons. On the ground new combat options include melee, fine aim, and human shield.
 • Freedom to explore: Get ready for more missions, activities, diversions, races, weapons, vehicles, cribs, city districts, and interiors than ever before. More than 40 story missions with additional bonus missions take place in a transformed Stilwater that is over 50% larger than before.

-edit Just got my new EGM in and it has Saints Row 2 on the cover.

I started typing up the whole article but fuck that. They padded the hell out of it to get it to 6 pages.

Here's what it reveals.

- Online co-op has been added and you will be able to drop in on a buddy's game at any point and join the story. They are also adding a new "mission-based, online gang war" to replace deathmatch.
- You can now take an enemy gang member hostage as a human shield, forcing his or her friends to cease fire. You'll lose that sense of safety, though, when you (inevitably) decide to throw your hostage off a roof or into oncoming traffic or through a plate-glass window.
- You can now duel wield single handed weapons ala Halo 2-3
- New weapons include satchel charges, remote-detonated explosives taht stick to whatever surface you want: vehicles, people or stuctures. And a new rocket launcher lets you unleash impromptu airstrikes. You can aim it after firing, allowing you to shoot the rocket straight into the air, then laser-guide it down toward some innocent bystander.
- Retooled A.I for more agressive law enforcement.
- New vehicles from motorcycles to monster trucks.
- Airplanes and helicopters have been added.
- Boats have also been added.
- New minigames include car surfing and testing your nutshot experience.
- Saints Row 2 is still taking place in Stilwater. It has been modified and expanded though.
- New water-locked areas fill out the edges of Stilwater while the appearance of the city has transformed thanks to the story taking place a few years after Saints Row 1.
- You can now your make your character a women or man lady if you really want too.
- "The entire Saints Row district itself is no longer a dilapidated old neighborhood but a gleaming metropolitan area with massive towers and rich people drinking lattes all day long. The game's old headquarters is still there though only cleaned up."
- "Elsewhere in Stillwater, what once was an empty waterfront is now a gentrified marina complex with upscale restaurants and a boardwalk. A section of the old piers is now decrepit, serving as a handy stunt park for watercraft. A newly uncovered sub-city cavern attracts tourist with its rock formations while elsewhere, an underground ruin provides a home for vagrants and a little-know street gang, the Saints, now on the rebound."
-
"At the start of Saints Row 2, you wake up in a prison hospitial bed and remember that not only did your boys try to kill you and leave you for dead, but that your balls are floating somewhere in the wayer. You're going to have to choose if you want to be a man of a woman. Needless to say, you're fucking pissed"
- The game is much darker. "This game is about anger and revenge and is much meaner and more sadistic than the first one." But it's also trying not to take itself too serously.

The teaser site for Saints Row 2 is up.

http://www.saintsrow.com/

It seems to be coming some time in 2008 and the series seems to have moved to the west coast according the screenshots.

Even better, it looks like motorcycles and helicopters are finally being added.

I can't wait, Saints Row 1 was a fantastic game and 2 seems to be shaping up to be even more of the same good stuff.

If they're smart they'll release it before GTA IV's release date.

They have to be pretty far into development if they been working on it since the release of SR1 and are using the same engine.

It's probably coming out in late 2008.

Originally, I heard that THQ wanted Saints Row titles to come out every other year, in relation to GTA. (Even though those have never come out every other year...)

I hope the multiplayer isn't broken, from a network stand-point, this time around. I thought the multiplayer, in its essence, was money... to bad I couldn't enjoy it, thanks to mad-lag.

Have you played it recently? When the game first came out the lag was absolutely horrible, but they patched it and the lag isn't all that bad anymore.

Do people still play it, though?

People play it plenty. That's not to say it has the best community though, most of the players suck at it and there are a lot of team killers.

It's about time. saints Row is a such an awesome game. At first I was skeptical but when everything comes together it's just so smooth. The online needs some fixing, though. TKing ruined online for me, plus in Blinged Out Ride there was always the asshole who would take out your car, bring it to the other base, and shoot it. That and the fact that the AK was way too strong.

I just can't wait to see what happens in the game. I hope there's a way that they scan your HD somehow for a Saints Row 1 save and " you" appear atleast once in the game.

The online is really fun and unique, despite the tk/glitching. If you play with a group of friends it's a lot of fun and definitely the funniest online game (blinged out ride especially).

LOTS of people still play online...

I don't think that this game will sell well considering how awesome GTA4 will be. You can tell that Rockstar is taking their time to make it the best they can, but THQ just seems like they want to push it out quickly.

This is great news, I really enjoyed the first one. I really should fnish the last few missions, as I took over all the territories, but then never did anymore missions because you didn't get achievements for them. I personally am looking forward to this more than GTA IV...

Big ass chains, nigger.

Glad to see they are following up, Saint's is easily in my top 5 360 games. I hope this leads to a one-upsmanship battle between GTA and Saints Row.
Is this a 360 exclusive? Or is it coming to the ps3 also?
I'd guess PS3 as well...the first one was scheduled for the PS3 but eventually they decided it wasn't worth the effort.
Saints Row MP sucks.
You suck.

The MP on this one was just bad. Good ideas, poorly executed. It was a great game though, better than any GTA out currently, but that isnt a fair comparison... GTA hasn't been on the next gen yet.

I'm expecting them both Fall 08.
I hope they don't rush this one like they did the first one.
They pushed it back to give it the time it needed. It was anything but rushed.

The EGM preview seemed pretty positive....tempted to get this one as I really enjoyed the first. Why don't I remember the ending for the first one? I must have missed something or did not pay attention.

Nice! I really hope we can do a lot of customization to the character..this way I can have a tiny, skinny, crazy white bitch on the loose!

Or maybe a fat woman? :whistle2:k They ARE angry people ya know..

Meh, it seems like its going to be good but with recent previews of GTA 4 im pretty sure its going to blow SR 2 out of the water.
I'm more hyped for SR 2 than GTA 4
Seriously??? Y???? GTA seems like its going to be better in almost everyway (except for the whole driving airplanes part)Seriously though im really interest to hear your response.
I'm more hyped for SR 2 than GTA 4
Agreed. I'm way more excited for SR2. In the end it comes down to fun. SR was simply more fun to play. I spent at least twice as much time plaing SR as I did all of the GTA's combined. And Protect tha Pimp was genious.

I third the "more hyped for this than GTAIV". The original Saints Row was just incredible IMO, and this will undoubtedly be an automatic pick up for me, while GTAIV, I am questioning, as the last GTA game I really played much was 3, which was great, but I don't find GTA more fun than Saints Row in the least.

Quite honestly, I think they are going to be different experiences. Saint's Row 2 is going to keep the fun, over-the-top gameplay from the first, while GTA 4 is attempting to do something more grounded in reality. I am definitely looking forward to both with very eager anticipation. This is my genre.

Just hope that the multiplayer gets an overhaul...it had potential for being fun, but it was just FUBAR'd even after it got patched.

someone please tell me what sucked so badly about the mp. i've never played it mp, so i really haven't an idea.

Hell. Yes. I actually 100% completed Saints Row, something I've never managed with the GTA games. Also, the fact that the police weren't like suicidal carbombers when you got the maximum wanted level meant that you could actually survive and have fun causing crazy mayhem instead of getting run over by tanks.

I'll definitely be getting GTA IV, but this has me way more excited.
Just hope that the multiplayer gets an overhaul...it had potential for being fun, but it was just FUBAR'd even after it got patched.
It was actually worse after the patch because you couldn't blame everything on lag. You realized there were a ton of other problems. I actually had a lot of fun during the initial laggy times and played well over 400 games online. When I tried to come back later after the patch there were way too many people exploiting glitches (like shooting through certain walls) to make it enjoyable.

Agreed 100%.

A few of the posts in this thread seem to be almost borderline GTA bashing, and I don't get that. The two series are similar in a lot of ways, but different enough that most people will have a clear preference for one or the other. I do get that, and whatever your preference is, cool. For me it's GTA, but I loved the hell out of Saints Row as well, and SR2 is a slam-dunk day one purchase for me.

I think part of the reason for the GTA backlash is the way SR was handled in the reviews and the press. Almost every review said it improved on GTA in a lot of ways, but then they knocked it for being more of the same. It has resulted in SR carrying the stigma of being a shameless GTA clone.

For example, IGN's 8.5 review says "But Saints Row, despite its distinct lack of originality, is fun. It starts out fun and it stays fun." Game Informer's 8.8 says "The one area where Saints Row really goes outside of anything that "GTA" has to offer is through its amazingly diverse and highly enthralling online." And perhaps the most telling is the 7.0 on 1UP that offers this gem of a quote "There are a lot of names to throw at a game like Saints Row: rip-off, clone, knockoff...take your pick. Honestly, it probably deserves them all. Everything about it apes Grand Theft Auto to such a degree that we'll never again be able to call anything else a "GTA clone,"... A startling dearth of creativity doesn't in any way actually equate to a bad game -- especially in the case of Saints Row. It's almost painful to say this, but if you can get over the fact that yeah, it's completely shameless, Saints Row is actually a lot of damn fun. "

This is coming from the same places that gave GTA:SA a 9.9, 10.0 and 9.0 respectively. I think that had this game been titled GTA: Stillwater, the reviews would have averaged at least a half point higher. I guess you could just dismiss this, but it's very possible that higher reviews scores and more buzz would have resulted in potentially more DLC or a higher development budget for SR2. I think it's also obvious that the relative success that SR had has driven Rockstar to push the envelope further with GTA IV.

BTW I already have GTA IV preordered.
I just like SR better than GTA
Same. I'll certainly buy both, but Saints was such a nice upgrade over GTA that they've got a fan for life....or until they make a shitty one. Ye olde days of CAGs in the middle of a Big Ass Chains match was quite entertaining, even with the pretty crappy lag you'd get during games.

It annoyed the shit out of me how reviewers at sites like Gamespot and IGN "artificially" lowered their SR scores so they wouldn't have the stigma of giving a ripoff too good of a score, as if it would hurt their credibility. Yeah, looks like that worked out real well for them.
