Samsung 19" HDTV or Dell 22" HD Monitor?

CAGiversary!
I have been looking to get a HD for my bedroom for a while now and with black friday around the corner I have a decision on my hands. I have decided to either get the Samsung 19" HD LCD at sears for $330, the LG 22" HD LCD at best buy for $350, or to spend money with my sister (since she needs a new PC) on the Dell deal and get the dell 24" HD monitor for probably somewhere around 300. I need at least 2 HD inputs and I am not sure whether the Dell monitor has more then one. I really like the samsung, but it seems that i could get a slightly larger set for a little less. Does anyone have any of these sets, or uses a monitor for HD gaming? Any advice would be helpful here.

I am still not sure whether a monitor is right. I want something for my ps3 and 360 in my bedroom. But wasn't really sure about getting a TV since I don't have HD cable, does an HD make normal cable look any better? is there any benfit to getting a HD TV over a Monitor if you aren't using HD cable?

I bought the 19 inch Samsung from sears during the secret sale last week. I am very impressed. Amazing PQ and brightness, and the game mode is cool. It's also super stylish. It's worth every penny.

Most monitors won't accept a 480i signal so you couldn't run cable or any old consoles on it. But a TV at that price is unlikely to have a good upscaler so anything that is 480i or even 480p is unlikely to look good.

If you go with the monitor you can always go VGA with the 360. A friend of mine has it that way and it looks fantastic and supports 1080i. I dont have a PS3 so unaware of its connectability. If you do go VGA, you'll need a seperate source for sound, but that shouldnt be a big problem, you'd also need to spend another 40 bucks on the Microsoft VGA cable.

If I was in your shoes that LG 22" would be the pick though. Ive got a 52" LG and its great. Bit bigger obviously but the manufacturer is good, and you know that you wont have any issues with hooking your things up. The downside is you wouldnt get a new computer monitor, so you gotta weigh what you want more.

HD does NOT make regular cable look better. In fact, on some TVs it looks decidedly worse because of the way the TV handles the signal, even if you have digital cable unless the channel is in HD its still shown in standard. You'll want HD cable once you see it, and most cable companies its not that expensive. I have Time Warner, and they swapped my regular cable box for an HD box (free, still pay the same monthly equipment fee as the regular box) and I get all the HD channels included with regular cable bill, ESPN, networks etc. They dont charge more for those. I splurged an extra 5 bucks a month for the HD premium package as well.

I use a Gateway 24" 1080p LCD monitor. Link is:

Couldn't be happier. It could be a little bigger, but since when I was looking at it last December, the next cheapest 1080p I could find period was $1900, I went with this one. The similiar Dell model I was looking at then was not HDCP compliant, so you might want to check on that. And yes, I've not yet sprung for a HD Satellite receiver (waiting for the HD DVR to not be $300 fucking dollars), and it looks like ass. The point is, yes, if the monitor is decent, it's awesome for gaming (have a PS3 using HDMI/DVI converter, 360 using VGA, and Xbox using composite). Somehow the Xbox using composite looks a hell of a lot better than the Sat using composite. Haven't really figured that one out. But your cable will probably look bad, at least if you are using composite.

I have been comparing the LG and samsung for a little while now. Samsung has a higher contrast ratio then LG's dynamic contrast ratio and the samsung has picture in picture which i like a lot. LG is larger and has a smaller response time then the samsung. But I think I am leaning towards the samsung, am going to best buy today to look at both sets.

Wait, you're worried about a 300 dollar player when you bought a $700 moniter. Did you suddenly go broke after the fact?
