Samsung 640 GB 2.5 HDD, 7200 RPM - $65 + free shipping
Maybe they work better now, but I don't trust Samsung HDs after all the failures I've had of theirs.
Read the reviews. There's a couple of people in there complaining about data loss.

I'd stick to a WD Scorpio Black for a good solid fast 2.5" HDD.

Just thought i'd throw this out there in case it comes up- This HD is not ideal for PS3 systems since it's 7200RPM. 5400 is the recommended speed for those.

I have read one review that says that, and those with a negative opinion of the product are more than likely to write a review, period, compared to those that don't have any problems. Reviews seem solid to be, but that is just my impression.

How's so? I have heard that 7,200 RPM doesn't give you much of an advantage with the PS3, but it doesn't necessarily hurt either.

Think it has to do with heat output more than anything, right?

I have two of these in a SFF PC, and they run flawlessly and very fast:

Over a thousand reviews, and far more positive than negative. With that many reviews of a product, you can get a realistic sampling of how they'll work long-term.

500GB version is $75 + $1 shipping, and was $65 w/free shipping a couple of days ago. Another one I'd give a hard look at:

Not the case anymore, Samsung hard drives are among the best available, especially the Spinpoint F4 series. I found these drives to be better performance and speed than the more expensive Western Digital.

Are you looking at the same drive everyone else is? There is 20 5-star, 1 4-star, and 1 2-star. I'm not sure how 2 non-5 egg reviews is enough to make you curious........
I've heard that Excess RPM could actually overheat your ps3 systems faster.
Popaloo nailed it. The faster HDs overheat the system.
only one problem with that though, the drives most people are looking for are the 2.5" form factor and the drive you linked us is a 3.5" other than that it's not a bad drive though.
Ah didn't even pay attention, my bad.
