Samurai Warriors: Chronicles

Waughoo

CAGiversary!
Given the titles at launch, I had a hard time choosing a first game for my nifty little DS on crack. Sure, Street Fighter is great, but I get really bored with any non-Smash fighting game. I did play the original Pilotwings, so was kinda ify about buying it. The rest of the game just didnt interest me at all.

But then there was Samurai Warriors: Chronicles. I love the Dynasty Warriors games, but never played a Samurai Warriors game. I have also played Dynasty Warriors on the DS and the PSP before and was less than impressed with them. Also most of the critic reviews I read for the game were not so great. So I was very leery about buying Chronicles. Then I read a few player reviews. Seems like most people LOVED the game! So I finally broke down and got it before my recent hospital stay. Sure I could have just waited and got something awesome in a few months, but I NEEDED to play a real 3DS game on my system.

I'm VERY glad I bought it!

I'm having so much fun with this game. I keep replaying levels over and over just to try and find the hidden 10th mission in each one, and unlock the 4th weapons for the different characters. I really love the main character's (I picked female) Muso attack combined with her Opportunity ability. It really gets you out of those annoying moments when 1 enemy gets in a hit, and the rest stun-lock you. I just wish there was a nice complete strategy guide for it, cause I'm trying to unlock everything.

I bought my 3DS mainly because I wanted to play new Mario Kart (WITH AN ANALOG STICK!) and Zelda. The 3D aspect of the system really didn't appeal to me as I was expecting cheesy "Oh look it's coming toward your face" effects like you see in most 3D movies (Despicable Me Tape Measure, I'm looking at you). I honestly planned on trying out the 3D a couple times, then turning it off. Now that I've played Chronicles I have to say that I LOVE the 3D. It really gives the graphics depth that I never really realized was missing. Now that enemy supply depot really looks like its 'away' from you. I turned off the 3D for a little while to try it out, and I turned it back on it like a minute. :)

Anyhow, thats my rant of my love for Chronicles. I almost did a whole review, but it would take awhile to write and I could spend that time unlocking more stuff in the game :)

I have played a Dynasty Warriors games since the one that launched with the PS2. I'd heard that Samurai Warriors did the 3D pretty well so I gave it a blind buy and I'm loving it. Fun game.

I wanted this to be my launch game pickup but I waffled and got Ridge Racer instead. No regrets there but this along with Shadow Wars are next on my list. I enjoyed playing through DW:Strikeforce PSP last year and I'm about due for some Koei action again.

Once it gets real cheap I will pick it up. I have Sengoku Basara to play through and I don't know if I can handle another warriors type game at the moment with Sengoku Basara in my backlog. I am curious to try it.

The only thing I really didnt like on this, other than the normal complaints with any DW clone, is the story stuff cant be skipped the first time thru. And theres ALOT of it. It's not that it's bad... it's just that I dont care about it.

Well, I've beat it on easy so far. It defiantly wasnt hard yet, but it does have the typical DW problems that are in any game. Like if you're in a later level, and have a couple enemy heroes against you at once they will often combo chain you. But the main character's one skill gives a full muso bar, which gets you out of those alot.

I find the game to be quite enjoyable as well, got it at launch along with street fighter not knowing what to expect. The I thing I don't like is the lack of a variety of different attacks, but other then that I think it is great.

hmmmm tempted in getting this.

thanks for the impressions , plus for $25 at best buy and $29 trade in at a local shop, i can beat and trade it in

Hey the first DLC for this is available. To get it, let your 3ds go in sleep mode while around a wireless connection. You should get a message in the system about the DLC becoming available. Then you should get a 2nd message saying something about a new weapon for you. Now you should have a blue dot on the Samurai Warriors icon in the system. Now you have to go in, pick network, then battle. There will be a battle waiting for you. Do it and win, and you'll get a notice about the weapon being available in your next game. I went in and just did the first level. After awhile a Supply Capitan shows up. Kill him and you'll have your weapon.

After all that I got a level 10 weapon with no stats. It kinda sucks but suppositively provides extra power or something with joint-attacks. Also I read that new DLC is going to be released like every Friday or something, but I dont know how reliable the source was or even where I read it. Stumbled across it when looking for the dlc info.
