School Networking Problem

Alright, I just moved into my dorm, and because people last year were stupid and couldn’t keep themselves from getting infected, this year the school has locked down the network. They make us register our PC’s MAC address, and install Cisco Clean Access Agent in order to get online. I’ve got all that crap done, but I would like very much to plug up my Xbox and PS2. I can’t register those, and I obviously can’t install Cisco software.

I have two Ethernet ports on my computer. So, does anyone know how to make the second port act as an uplink to the first, so that anything I plug into it will simply look like my computer to the network?

I guess what I want to set up is Internet Connection Sharing between my PC and Xbox. I've opened up sharing on my PC, but I've been getting nothing but error messages from the Xbox. Has anyone out there had any luck connecting an Xbox or PS2 through ICS?

Thanks for the link. I've been googling, but I can't find anything that goes in depth enough about these problems. All Xbox.com really wants to tell me is 'Turn on ICS and plug in your Xbox. If your Xbox does not connect, start the troubleshooter.'

Right now I've got my Internet NIC set to share the connection, with all addressing automatic. I've the LAN NIC set with manual addresses:

IP Address 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

Preferred DNS sever 192.168.0.1

The Xbox's addresses are set manually (since automatic didn't work) to:

IP Address 192.168.0.3
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

Preferred DNS Server 192.168.0.1

This setup gives me the error "The network Gateway could not be reached..."

I've tried running | cmd | IP Config /all to see the Gateway and DNS addresses provided by the ISP and entering those into the appropriate places, but not luck.

That's gonna be a tough one. Basic ICS should work correctly w/ those settings you've entered, but with the addition of networking software (such as the Cisco Clean Access), it may require a lot more work to get ICS working. I cant really help you here, I'm no networking expert. But I'll ask this obvious question (it had to be asked), are you using a crossover cat5 cable between the PC and the XBox? If you are, I would consult w/ the computer tech department in the school to see if they can help you on their school network.

Well, I don't have a crossover cable so I'm using a hub, but it finds the connection alright. It just says no connection with a regular cat5.
