Seeking advice on Laptop purchase

Need some advice on laptop shopping. Don't really know where to begin.


What I want is a laptop, not a netbook, that will last a good 2-3 years without any major hiccups. I will be using it for basic internet, word processing, and listening to some mp3s. I don't need it to be able to handle massive downloads of HD movies or play and fancy new games.

I don't want to spend any more than $400.

Any ideas?

You want high L2 cache (2mb+ per core) and a decent video card (128mb+), and a wireless N card. Check out slickdeals for that. I think a build-your-own @ dell/hp/blah would be a good start, with some coupons and bing cashback stacked.
