Severely Undervalued BIN Ebay Listings: Real or Fake?

I was just browsing through some recent sales of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and I came across this listing that sold a Like New copy for $20, free shipping under BIN. I know in this case the seller is pretty new, but I really can't see a reason why he would legitimately sell this game for a quarter of its listing value, for no other reason than possibly a fake / friend auction.

What would even be the benefit of a fake auction (that would still cost him listing fees) in the first place? Draw attention to his other legitimate items for sale (worked for me at least, just incase he listed something else ludicrous), or just for classic SnGs? Anyone on here ever buy one of these types of lowball auctions and get something not even close to advertised, like case only auctions?

I'm guessing that guy is clueless.

Sometimes you win with that kind of auction, but it's hard to lose as you can always file a SNAD if the item isn't what you expected.

That stuff is most likely clueless buyers.

The scams are the sellers who are selling new release games for $24.99-$39.99 with quantities of like 20+ with relatively low feedback, poor spelling, little to no information in the listing and despite stating they are located in the U.S. they uploaded Chinese tracking after payment is submitted.

Peep dis![/QUOTE]
That's pretty bad, especially since the seller seemed experienced enough, good pictures, description. Maybe they just forgot to add another 9 in there somewhere? They give you a chance to review the auction before you post it though...

Definitely a seller who doesn't care about the value. Just wants to unload it and be done even though he or she could easily get more. Some new sellers also know they have to price low to move their item. It isn't likely a new seller with very low feedback numbers is going to get market rate for rare items.

I never knew that game was rare...I've seen it out in the wild before too.

Now I feel like an idiot for not buying it.

who would of thought a duck game was that rare.. i'm not 100% positive but i believe i saw that game out in the flea market this past Sunday. Some Hispanic woman was selling it... o_O

Man, that is a sweet deal for whoever bought it. The seller also priced all of the other wii games they're selling for the same price, so it's safe to assume they simply weren't aware of it's value.

I don't get the Hispanic woman line, was she hot or you didn't trust her? Not offended, not hispanic either, just an odd thing to say.

Well it was my first time ever going to a flea market and it just surprised me for her to be selling video games. Weird

I don't want to highjack the thread, but that is an even weirder answer. I don't know what this woman looked like beyond her background you mentioned that would surprise you so much. Even if she didn't look like the gamer type she could be selling them for her kids or something, I'm sure online sellers come in all types and backgrounds, and I am sure we've bought games from creepy people online without knowing it, I think gaming is universal now and not a niche thing, Brazil has a huge gamer market for instance. I don't know, I guess not going to a flea market before could set you up for some surprises but I don't know maybe hispanic people aren't common by you?

Methinks you making somewhat if a big deal out of it is a bit more weird...

I didn't find anything off about the statement at all. :shrugs:

This is nothing new... clueless sellers often list items for way less.

I once missed out on a great SNES lot (tons of boxed/minty RPGs, including Earthbound) that was listed at $700 but was well worth $2000+. I also missed out on Wind Waker/MQ pack for $12.

I don't think you guys saw Duck Tales 2 in the wild - I've been buying and selling games on eBay for seven years now and have never encountered it in the wild (aside from back in 1994 when I got the copy I own from a Warehouse Video clearance bin for $4.99). You probably saw the original Duck Tales game, which looks fairly similar and is super common.

I know the difference between Duck Tales 1 and 2 :p

Besides, I remember specifically thinking that I didn't know they made a 2nd game when I saw it.

That guy probably meant to put the BIN at $899.00

I'm more suspicious of really high BINs that get purchased for more common games. That would more likely be fake since it would help the seller in the future get more for future sales (in theory).

I just assumed that because I always trip myself up with the licensed Capcom NES games - the labels look so similar that I don't think I'd ever remember what I specifically saw. Duck Tales 2 is insanely rare, though - I've been to hundreds of thrifts, pawns, and video game stores over the past few years and have never seen it. If you can make it back to wherever you saw it, you really should do it (though I probably didn't have to mention that :D).

I got my cart only copy of Duck Tales 2 at my SA for $2.99 :) nice label too.

MPT for 11.97 at sears a year or so ago, I knew I shoulda grabbed the two I saw. Oh well, good karma :)

Yeah I figure that is the general consensus, misinformed sellers, though why bother with a BIN price at all if you aren't sure on the value? No limit to the human intelligence on either end of the spectrum I guess.

I'm curious on this too, actually, when I see new sealed games go for twice of what they are worth on BIN, the listing and / or final value fees would be wasted (if they are trying to artificially increase the market value), especially if it is a common game.

If someone has boxes of sealed wholesale games, it might be worth the fees hit. (And you could always have a buddy buy it with a new account, and then file NPB to get the fees refunded.)

I was checking current market value on Smash Bros 64 on amazon, found someone selling a copy for a whole $5.00, next lowest was for $48.00

Bought it immediately, I was sure the seller would cancel but it was shipped out. Resold it the same day it was delievered for $48.00

This was about a week ago
