Shenmue turns 7 today

For some random reason, I'll always remember the day I beat Shenmue (while randomly flipping back-and-forth between the first-ever XFL game  )

An epic series that died long before it had a chance to reach it's planned conclusion.

Do you want to play a game of lucky hit?

Shenmue is a classic. I loved both games. Those English voice overs were hilarious.

Shenmue III: The only game less likely to ever hit retail shelves than Duke Nukem Forever.

We miss you and your clunky controls and "GODDAMMIT I'M GONNA GET THAT GOLD DURAL CAPSULE!" addictiveness.
It was pretty good
YOU are right. It was pretty good. It was NOT "one of the greatest games ever made" nor did it forever change the landscape of gaming.

I never got to play this, but I remember seeing a preview of it on whatever the hell TechTV (now G4) gaming show with Adam Sessler was at the time and thinking it looked awesome. Too bad I missed out on it.

Reading that makes me want to cry. :(

Very nice article, if I knew this sooner I would of digged out my copy of Shenmue and played it.

But it's late, and I'm lazy.

My favorite Dreamcast game, and Shenmue 2 being my favorite xbox game of all time. Shenmue and Jet Set Radio were the reasons I ended getting both of those systems. I regret not being able to play it now, at least I'll still have the memory. Oddly, it made me want to become a fork lift driver at the docks.:D

One of the best games I have ever played and one of the reasons I bought an Xbox to play Shenmue II!

I wish Sega would finish the story! I don't care what platform the Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3! I would definitely buy one of the three if Shenmue III was on it!

It's funny, I started playing Shenmue II for the second time a few days ago. I guess I was kinda inspired by VF5. Plus I watched the Shenmue Movie DVD that came with Shenmue II.

Do you know anyplaces where saliors hang out?

How about a game of lucky hit? Would You like to try Lucky? Try Lucky Hit...
I didn't know Kojima frequented these boards!
He does, and he doesn't appreciate your jokes :)

I'm not happy about it either, but I think it's a given. We'll never see Lan Di get his comeuppance.

I remember seeing someones list of the the worst games ever and Shenmue was #1. I think it was G4, but I'm not 100% sure. After seeing that it got me angry.

EDIT - I found it. It was that "Filter" show that used to air on G4. It got runner-up next to one of those CDI Zelda games on the "Worst Games Ever" episode. What a bunch of shit.

Why does everyone knock on Duke Nukem Forever? Last year's Prey was in development limbo for over a decade and it was much better than it had any right to be. By that same note, playing Duke Nukem Forever will cause your head to explode from sheer awesomeness if given just a few more years development.

That's exactly why that & most of the other original G4 shows got shit-canned(Is Cheat even airing new episodes?). No one could take them seriously.

I said nothing of the gameplay, did I? I knocked it because it's been under development since fuckin' forever ago, which is true.

Loved the game, though the fighting was reminiscent of the 32X. Or Karate Fighters. In Jello. Otherwise, yeah. I still have a winning can that I never had a chance to exchange on the Passport service.

Shenmue changed the gaming landscape about as much as Goldfinger's Hang-Ups changed the music scene.

(I do think both are great though)

Ah Shenmue...

I remember getting a job moving boxes. Oh what fun it was driving the forklift. Yeah... fun times.

Ok, I'm not gonna lie- I didn't think Shenmue was that great.

Now that I think about it, I think I got a job moving boxes in the second game too! Man, no wonder I never even finished the second one.

Loved it, still have it, just "found" the second one for Dreamcast. Never finished #2, now it will be next endeavor (well, after Mario Galaxy)
