Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers is one of the "lost" Shin Megami Tensei games; one of the games that, despite some initial localization plans, didn't make it to US shores for its initial release. Originally developed for the Sega Saturn and ported to the PSOne, it seems to be considered among long-time Megaten fans to be a great game, with addictive negotiation and battle systems, great music (Soul Hackers was the second game that Shoji Meguro worked on), good dungeon design, and an interesting story. Soul Hackers goes further into cyberpunk territory than just about any other entry in the Shin Megami Tensei franchise.
Setting
Being a cyberpunk game, Soul Hackers takes place in the future. Amami City is a model city, with a fully-networked infrastructure designed to make the city as efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible. Everyone has wireless access to the Net at any point in the city, along with a portable PC. All of these things, powered by the super-fast Krypto chip, are provided free to citizens courtesy of the project's manager, the Algon Soft corporation.
