shipping problem

Nitz

CAGiversary!
Okay guys.. I posted part of this earlier in the month.

Basically I won an auction on ebay in july. The buyer took FOREVER to ship it.. I had to bug him about it.

Finally he ships it and I get a door bell ringing and a UPS guy is there.. and wants to charge me duty fees. I'm in Canada and bought it from a guy in the states.

Now I BID! because his shipping statement said USPS shipping, NO WHERE does it mention anything about UPS.

So I reject the package and UPS is taking a HELL of a lot time sending the package back.. it's almost been 1 month since the shipper sent the package.

I'm wondering what I should do now? I was thinking of filing a dispute against him. He said he would not pay me back till he has the package in his hands. I rejected the package and UPS is shipping it back, but taking a hell of a long time.

Also, the user SHOULD have sent USPS.. he never mentioned at anytime that he was sending it via UPS, nor does it say in his auction.

So what should I do now? wait if off and bug UPS each week to see what's going on.. or file a dispute and would I even win the dispute? he use shipping methods NOT mentioned in his auction.

I also think the auction was like in Jun/July when I won the bid.

I need some advice.

Thanks.

I'd love to help but I really have no idea what would happen in a dispute in this case. I'd assume you'd win but who knows how. Im definately watching to see how this turns out. God I hate UPS and their BS fees. I've got two high value shipments coming to me currently and I made damn sure they were not sent UPS

So, that's wierd - you only pay duty fees via UPS and not USPS? I nearly always send via USPS to Canada but I did send some things UPS last year when I needed tracking. The problem is, you send via USPS and Canadians can screw you over by claiming it never arrived (no tracking). Now, that hasn't happened to me with Canada, but I did have that happen with a package sent to Spain.

So, anyway, I can see why a seller would insist on UPS to Canada for the tracking. But aren't duty/customs fees a government thing? Why would one shipping method incur them but not another (for the same item)? Is it just that UPS discloses the value more clearly (for the insurance)? If you send via USPS express or the new global priority mail (which includes insurance) does that trigger fees?

Magiic - how's that collections thing going? I know you got screwed over BIG time by the UPS duty collection at the door thing. That seems so wierd to me they would charge people upon delivery.

you can pay duty charges on USPS stuff however UPS starts off by just charging a "brokerage fee" from $25 right up to several hundred depending on the value of the item. As far as the collections thing they call maybe once or twice a month and I just keep saying they have the wrong number.

yeah I paid with Paypal.. and I'm sure it's over 45 days.. it took the guy atleast 30 days to actually ship it... he delayed it for so long.. I had to email him a lot to get him to send it.. then he sends UPS, without even contacting me about it.. His descriptions says USPS only..

Lets say I do file a dispute? I don't lose anyway do I? I mean starters, he used another shipping method not mentioned #2 sent the items almost 1 month late.. #3 I rejected package and therefore have or had no access to it at all.

I'm thinking file a dispute. Worst case scenario you lose the dispute. Best case scenario you win. Also you will likely get a negative if you dispute,

thats why i dont ship outside of US. theres one time i shipped a dumb strategy guide for $19 to canada. i told the USPS worker i must have tracking number. he said express mail. crazy price i tell u. one stupid guide costs like $15 and $19 to ship it.

Shipping to Canada isnt the end of the world you dont *NEED* tracking. Have a policy of no international shipping for users under lets 50 or 100 feedback should keep you safe from scamming. However I do understand it doesnt protect you if shit gets lost.

Do they still let you file a dispute on something though after the 45 days?

How did you fund paypal? CC, DC, PP funds?

Hopefully you used a CC/DC and can file a chargeback with them, just say you never recieved

After getting gangraped by a canadian bidder, I made sure that I don't allow any packages to canada or internationally go without shipping. I charge 12 dollars to ship a game to Canada. Nobody complains about shipping though. But to be fair, it goes by registered mail which costs ten dollars just to add it ontop of air mail.

this is pissing.. really makes me NOT want to use ebay anymore.. so far.. I have no reply from him.. and I have to call UPS because I think the old tracking code was altered it says...

I haven't filed a dispute and I don't want to file a chargeback, because PP is known to close account if you do.

Close accounts? umm I've never heard of that. I've done a couple disputes/chargebacks and have had no problems
