I'm looking to purchase a 360 and was considering the used ones at gamestop. Is this too risky? I've read about many early ones being buggy. They say refurbished, does that mean they've been looked at recently. Thanks in advance.

That's the only thing [gaming related] I'd never buy used. Especially if it has the chance to be one of the earlier 360s. I'm not quite sure how the warranty is for used systems, but you still get to purchase that Microsoft warranty if you bought one new. Try looking for a Tower Records in your area, and if you're lucky, you might find one for 25% off.

Doesn't GS have a warranty plan ? I know that they have one for games. If there is one go for it but only if you have credit. If not try the Overstock deal. (I believe there is a 12% coupon) But buy the warranty if you go with either one. This will save you some money in the long run.

Used vs. New on a 360 really doesn't save you much money, and wouldn't be worth it imo. Your best bet is just to get someone that works at a Meijer/Target/etc and get their employee discount on a new one. =)

If I were to buy used, I would try and look for someone on this website that is looking to sell. It would most likely be much cheaper that Gamestop and I think there is a better chance they took good care of the system. A system from Gamestop could have easily come from a house with 3 young kids who beat the hell out of it.
