Should I buy this PC?

Ok, so I have been thinking about building a PC for a while, but I have never done so. One of the issues I have had is convincing myself to spend the money to build a nice rig as I play xbox predominantly right now. But then today I stumbled on this deal at newegg... and I know everyone will say iBUYPOWER sucks but I would make sure I got the 2 year warranty and ordering thru newegg would give me 30 days if anything is DOA to deal with them.

So here it is:

It is on sale right now. The case looks ok, processor and video card look good. I was wondering though about the 8gb of ddr3 1333mhz memory, the 500w power supply, and the SATA II HDD. I don't know wanted to pull the trigger but now I was just hoping someone tech savvy would give me some advice.

Basically this seems like a lot of computer for 800 bucks despite a few issues.. and its cheap enough that I could convince myself to buy it even though I use my xbox a lot. So basically my question to all of you is, is this computer worth the time and money despite its couple issues? Are these things I brought up super detractors that make this deal not worth it? Thanks in advance.
 
that's actually not a bad price for a pre built gaming pc, if you price out the parts its definitely not marked up much, I say get it if you don't want to build it yourself.

Exactly, I did a rough newegg estimate and I was looking at like $780 to build it myself... so even with the $80 two year warranty I would only be looking at ~$100 to not have to build.

Basically I wanted a good processor and graphics card, which this has, but I also wanted to make sure that the other components were acceptable that nothing stuck out to anyone. Thank you for your opinion!

no hdmi...??
 
that wouldnt be the problem because the nvidea gtx660 has a mini hdmi port on it or hdmi not sure which (mini hdmi to hdmi cable needed if mini hdmi) or you can go dvi or dp 1.2 only thing is i belive the h61 asus models are the lower end models
 
That's pretty good for a pre-built. There's no way the GTX 660 doesn't have a mini-HDMI or HDMI port, btw. And if it has a mini, it will probably come with a mini HDMI adapter (my 460 did).

I'd say go for it.
 
The only reason I would say that you not get it is that ibuypower will throw in a junk psu with all of that nice hardware. (the i5 3570k and gtx 660 are great processor and vid card, but it could create problems down the road if you are left with a junk 500 watt psu that really can't deal with 500 watts in reality)
 
Even 500 true watts seems to be a bit low imho. Still everything else looks great. Truth be told I paid just under this for my recent amd build... and I reused my old hdd's. If this was around back when I built I definitely would have considered buying this and just switching the psu to a 600 or 700 watt corsair. Another draw back in my eyes is win 8 instead of win 7 as I don't really care for the metro ui... And in the consumer preview build I used I lost abut 200 point on my 3d mark score. I doubt that performance test I did would hold up today... I'm sure win 8 in all actuality would out perform win 7 if using what is released today. So really the win 8 issue is a ymmv thing... I'd say go for it and swap that psu...
 
Thank you all for your opinions. And yeah, basically because it is so cheap I was thinking I will easily have money and room to upgrade where needed. For now just psu and obviously a monitor.

Yeah, that brings up a good point. Never underestimate the importance of a good monitor. No point having a nice rig if your capped at some wonky resolution. I would make sure to get a monitor that at a minumum 1920x1080 resolution, these can be had cheaply nowadays at least.
 
Yeah I was thinking a 23 or 24 inch 1080p with maybe 2 ms response time? My buddy got a 23 inch Samsung with those specs for about 250.
 
Check out this Asus monitor.
It's an IPS panel, much better than your normal TN panel that you'd get elsewhere.

it's 5ms, but that's perfectly fine. The picture/color quality makes up for the tiny 3ms difference.

Thank you for the monitor advice. I bought the pc so now I am actively searching for a monitor. The price on that one is actually better than ones that I was looking at, but I take it you're saying that's a high quality monitor? Thanks.
 
Yeah. That's good advice on that monitor. Very similar to what I have. The latency isn't really an issue with lcds anymore... hasn't been for quite awhile. 5ms is not going to be noticeable as stated previously. I bet that would look every bit as good as that sanding you were gonna drop almost 100 more on.
